I was asked to pass this along from somone I work with. When I was deployed in 90-91 mail was the most important thing to us.
Hi everyone, I need your help. As you know, our son Matt recentley returned from overseas duty with a tour in Iraq. Gayle and I would send him CARE packages a couple of times a week. I can't imagine being so far away and not getting mail. It is a small thing to really brighten someone's day.
Believe it or not, there are some service men and women who do not get any mail. So, I am asking you to take the time and send a card or something. Pick a few or all of them. We are in God's grace today that Saddam has been captured ! If you cannot send individual cards or small gifts to the men and women listed below, maybe you can scroll to the last name on the list and send a small box of holiday cheer to the Major (Miller) who will in turn spread your joy throughout his troops. All of these addresses are military addresses for our United States troops. You do not have to pay extra for overseas shipping. Or if you don't have time now, send something after Christmas.
God Bless America ! And God Bless you!
Also, please pass on this list to others that you think might also help our service men and women. If you can spread it around your office or church, that would help too.

Just wanted to say, that while I was deployed the holidays were the hardest time and anything from home, from anyone is enough to brighten a holiday so please take the time to write, or whatever you can do.......

I just put together a small package of shampoo, conditioner and chips and candy for Taryn Martinez.:D
It is a good feeling. I only wish it would get there before Christmas.:yuk:
I challenge everyone on this board to pick one soldier and send a small care package to. And tell us what you sent. Mine cost less than $10.00 and I know it will go a long way to brighten the day of one of our fighting heros. After all their service to our country makes it possible for us to sit here and waste time on this forum.

Havasu Cig
12-22-2003, 01:23 PM
we are going to put some packages together tonight.
Like was stated above, the smallest things really mean a lot. Stuff that you take for granted in everyday life, Like a bag of chips, cookies, whatever mean so much more when you can't run down to the local store and buy them.
Thanks for the help.

I had the same question Thor

Ntwotrance
12-22-2003, 02:24 PM
To answer your question, yes it will get there, the APO will route it to the appropriate unit. What to send, letters, wrapped cookies, shampoo, anything that will not perish in transport.

Two of the things that you should not send is Alcohol and Porn. It was not allowed, due to Muslim law, when I was there. I doubt things have changed.
Reading material like books, mags ect...
Food is always a good thing. Cookies, Chips ect...

My package was just picked up by UPS. It was sent next-day air to the home base of the soldier that I chose.
I sent a couple of magazines, a company shirt and hat, shampoo, toothbrush, tooth paste, doritos, cheetoes, trail mix, chocolate bars, and a lot of misc snack foods.
I hope it is received where ever they are deployed VERY soon!
Thanks for the heads up Havasu Cig.:D

Bunch of candy bars, snacks, CDs, bubble gum
I really thought about the gum thing. Is gum hard to get over there? I know if I was in a remote place, some gum would be some cool shit to have. Porn too, but I am always into porn. :D
Hope these guys really enjoy this shit half as much as I enjoyed sending it.

Come on people....278 views on this, and only 18 replies???
We can spend thousands of dollars on our boats, but we cant spend $15 on someone fighting for our children and families to have a safe holiday? These people are over there with noone but there units, and we are here eating to much turkey, and waking up christmas morning to our children excited to see what Santa brought them......
What is wrong with this picture? Im sure there are a few more people out of the many members of this board that can fork out a few extra bucks to make someones day a little brighter.

Thanks 22,
what a lot of you don't know is that a lot of military people live almost at the poverty level (I should know I went through it and it is no fun). The holidays away are hard times and sometimes there are times when you feel like you are completely alone in the world while serving your country. It doesn't take to long, a letter, some items, whatever you can spare to brighten someones day.
BUMP.

This is one of the greatest post that I have read.... Will get a few things out.....
I would like to give some advice to people sending packages.... (one of the programs that I manage is the mail service for our 6 Pacific Fleet Aircraft Carriers)
No need to send packages overnite by FEDEX or UPS to an address that is an APO or FPO, use US Postal Service...... They go to either New York or San Francisco to the military postal collection then over seas by contract carrier..... Right now it is taking 12-16 days to get overseas.... After Holidays 6-8 days......
Keep your package the size of a shoe box.... Will nove quicker.... The loadmaster wants to move quanity not volume..... Larger PKGS may sit for a vew days........
Marry Christmas everyone and thank you for thinking of our men and women seerving our country......
