Its sounds like he got a big fat lemon,
Once in while that happens....
But still a good choice of cars....

You can have ours, but i don't think you would want it. My friend has the same vehicle and he is having problems with it also.
Get the 7.3. I do not trust the 6.0.

I have a an "Limited" Excursion with a Powerstroke deisel. I have no problems in the 70,000 miles that I have had it since new. However, I know that even Ferrarri has had to buy back cars because of lemon laws. Havasu Cig, I'm sorry that you have a bad experience, but I believe that it has been one of the most trouble free cars that I have owned. It tows like a dream...hell, I go to Powell and forget that I am even towing a boat!
I believe that if you are going to tow with an 8 passenger SUV, there is no better.

hey cig, i just finished my buy back with ford on my 01 f350 pwrstroke. 4 trannies in 30k and the last one was slipping. i tow a 25' daytona and yes its lifted with 37" tires but c'mon. ford JUMPED thru the whoops for me and i now have a 03 replacement. the new 6.0 and 5spd auto kicks all over the old drivetrain. im very happy and will be a loyal ford owner. oh btw, i work for dodge. every manufacturer has buy backs and"lemons" if you doccument everything and turn it in to the dispute settlement board you will get a fair deal. i did:D :D

some of the first 6.0 diesels had some serious problems, from what i understand ford decided to use there own computer system on the new motor which really f---- up the motors electrical config.. i dont know why they would screw with that after international had a great motor and computer system 99 thru 2002 i guess they changed the programming back to international specs. and fixed that problem as far as oil leaks etc. sounds like a lemon, i do know they were hammering pistons, rods etc. because of the computer problem (ports not opening correctly).Midway thru. 2003 they say the problem was fixed. I have 2002 7.3 diesel no engine problems so far tran. is anothr story.

6.0 rushed to market. Full of problems. To compete with Duramax. Which was rushed to market. And has problems. 7.3 is proven. 228,000 on my 99 and never a valve cover off. Original auto trans also. Buy used 7.3 and let everyone else do the R&D for Ford and Chevy. Then when they get it worked out, get ya a new one. About 2 more years.

2000' v10 4x4 with 112,000 miles. Besides normal fluid changes and brakes/tires never had a real problem. This is my daily driver and best car I've ever owned. I'll be keeping this one for a long time.
Good luck with your search.

I wish i had gotten the diesel for the gas mileage, but other than that no complaints.

Good luck to those that go with the 6.0, I hope they have worked out the problems. My buddy bought his 3 weeks after our's, and he is talking about getting Ford to buy it back as well.

I've got an '03 6.0 Diesel Excursion. Two minor issues within the first 2,000 miles....fixed. No problems since.
I love the truck. Best motor/tranny combo I've ever driven.

I am looking to get a used 2000 or 2001 Excursion w/ V10.
What should I look for in these trucks?

My aunt has a 2000 with a 6" lift running 35's. She loves the truck. Her's is the 7.3 though.
I have driven a V-10 F-350 and it had some balls, but I would still go with a diesel for towing. The 7.3 on the 2000/2001 model you are looking for is a good motor.

I recently purchased a 2000 Excursion Limited 4x4 w/V10 from a private party for $21K. It had 41k miles on it and was immaculate. There are some good deals out there if you have the time to look.
I don't think you can go wrong with one.:D

C-YA,
I am looking at purchasing a Limited Excursion with a Powerstroke around March. I was wondering if you experience any sag in the rear end with a load, and wether or not you have added an aftermarket rear-sway bar such as a Hellwig, or any other performance accessories like a Quadzilla chip etc.
Happy New Year..

The rear end sag with the X is definitely worse than my F-250 or F-350 was. I would put some bags on it. We were planning on doing that.
The sway on the freeway while towing is kind of bad as well. Our 30' Weekend Warrior is worse to tow then the boat even though it ways half as much. The body roll in the X is bad imo. My trucks felt much more stable.
