I got my first jet boat back from my buddy and want to get it going again. I'm a rookie when it come to this stuff so there's a good chance my questions are stupid.
1. How important is it to use the metal fuel line that connects from the fuel pump to the carb? Can I replace that with a standard rubber hose?
2. The engine turns over. If I want to hook up the garden hose to it, do I just unhook the two ends of the hoses shown in this picture and hook up the garden hose to the end that then leads to the block?
Thanks for anyone that can gimme some advice...
Nate

i used steel braided lines from the fuel pump to the carb. its just a good idea. and thats where you hook the water up at. but start the boat before you turn the water on. you should really use a t valve right on the jet, then that fitting for the garden hose tho.

Thanks. I'll head to the store in a few. Where does the T valve go? And is that to keep the jet cool or what? I'll throw up some pics of the jet, if you could just let me know what part of the jet you're talking about

if you are gonna start the motor just to see if it fires, i would say there is no need to run water to the motor. it is more important to get the wear ring wet. with the fitting you have your gonna have to open up the forward/reverse gate and stick a garden hose in.. (dont put it in to far). just enough to get water dripping out of your intake.. it will be ok to run the motor (at idle) for 20- 30 sec. as far as your fuel line, rubber 3/8 fuel line will be fine cause i dont think your running an after market high pressure fuel pump..

Thanks...I took it to Elsinore today and it actually ran alright. Idled a little high but was good altogether.
I'm running a Carter fuel pump...dunno much more about it other than the numbers that are on the lip. http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/2185DSC00177.JPG

if you remove that hose off the fitting in the box. there should be threads there. put the t valve on those threads. then a hose fitting onto the t valve. that way you can shut off the water to the boat if you blow a water line. out of the garden hose fitting run a hose straight up to the t fitting under the engine.
as for the fuel line. i run a mech halloey fuel pump and a holley carb and i ran ss braided line from the pump to the carb, in a duel feed line with a psi gauge. just to be on the safe side. i know its only 5-7 psi. but better safe then sorry.
