None of them are closeups but they might help anyway,

Sleek- I have a 1974 Marlin Taurus- The rub rail on my boat was nothing more than a 3/4" wide soft aluminum strip bent to match the hull contour. I will check to see if I have any decent pics of the rub rail as it was installed Hope this helps- Stanhttp://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/68marlinb4leftfront.jpg http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/68marlinb4rearview-med.jpg

Yep, same hull as a Sidewinder.
455Marlin, I have a '72 Taurus I'm fixing up. It's got the 455 Olds too. Nice to see someone out there with the same boat.
You done any engine mods?

CRDSTang- This hull(at least the bottom half) is very similar to a sidewinder, but the top is different, and somewhat unique to Marlins- I completely rebuilt the 455- Bore was good, so fresh rings, bearings, Comp 292 Cam and lifters, true roller timing chain and gears, Edelbrock Torker, with a rebuilt 750 cfm Quadra-Jet. It has ported and polished Ka big valve heads with the center exhaust risers filled. HEI distributor. All four corners of the heads were drilled and tapped for 3/8 oil return lines back to the pan. The motor is complete, and unfired as of yet- I am doing a complete resto of the boat- Custom diamond tuck and roll interior, Candy apple red paint, removing hook from the hull, fixing all stress cracks(NEVER AGAIN- I'll live with them next time!!LOL), etc, etc-Long road, but I have always loved this hull design, and I wanna do it right, ya know? The reason for much of the similarity is that the company and many of the builders that built Sidewinders in Anderson CA moved up to So. Oregon (Around White City) to build Marlins.

Stan, aren't you the guy I sold an Edelbrock O4B intake to a while back? Sounds like your making good progress.

Stan,
I'm not seeing any diff. in your hull and mine. Please point them out to me. I'm curious!
The tops look the same.

Jet City- I am the guy you sold the O4B to- I decided to go with the Torker, so I could use the HEI- It wouldn't fit with the O4B, so I sold it to a guy on ROP.com- It's been a long road- I got laid off right after I stripped the hull, and didn't have the money to really work on it- Now I'm back to work, but don't have the time!! Sidewound, as far as I can see, the hull bottoms are identical, but the tops have a few differences- Almost all of the Sidewinders I've seen have the three "hash" marks right behind the windshield frame on the side of the hull- Mine has a "dished" area with no hash marks- Also, I think the Sidewinders(at least some of them) were right hand drive, where my wheel is on the left, with a foot throttle. The dash and seating are different, too, and my hull has a small "spoiler" lip at the rear at the transom- I think that spoiler should be good for at least 10 mph over a similar Sidewinder, along with my new DNE sticker on the valve covers!LOL http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/68marlinb4interior-med.jpg:rolleyes: :yuk:

Thanks Marlin. The pic of the interior shows some signifigant differences in the dash as well as the drive side. Mine is right hand drive.

Mine is Right Hand Drive too.
455Marlin,
I wonder if there was a specific model year that they switched to LHD. Mine's a '72 Taurus, but has the same hull/top as your '74. My floor is different, it's flat all the way forward. Dash looks the same except for everything being on the other side.
Anything specific I need to know about drilling and tapping the heads for drainback lines? Looks like my 455 is going back together with just restrictors and a high volume pump, hopefully the additional drainback will keep enough oil in the sump. It's .060 over, Ga heads, haven't selected a cam yet. Am I correct in thinking that a single plane is the way to go, since lowend isn't a consideration?

Crd- I don't know about the lhd vs rhd deal, Marlins seem to be few and far between here in the great white northeast, although there is a guy with a 78' 16' Marlin( possibly a Leo) that has a 305 SBC and Merc outdrive on it about 2 miles from my house. It is a RHD. As far as my floor being flat--what you are seeing in front of the loud pedal is a removable bulkhead that hides the bow tank, and will be an excellent place to mount some speakers, when the time comes!---- When I put my motor together, all the info I could gather lead me to believe that either a stock or high VOLUME(not high pressure) oil pump was needed, and restrictors, along with a bigger pan, and the drainbacks to the pan. I drilled and tapped the heads at the point where the factory drainbacks "dogleg" and neck down in the heads. My theory here was that the factory holes were most restrictive right at that point, so I put the drains there. It was fairly easy, as I have access to a large drill press. I put 3/8 ID HIGH TEMP rubber return lines down to T-fittings located above the oil level in the pan. I hope it is effective, since the motor ran for 30+ years without any oiling mods but at a lower rpm. I was able to spin my Berk "A" impeller about 4500 rpm on a good day- Hoping for at least 5000 rpm now! Just FYI- Check out the Wriedt Spoiler for sale above- Looks like yet another splash of the Tahiti/ Schuster/Glastron/ MArlin/ Sidewinder, etc. hull. The way I see it, it must have been a decent hull design for so many other people to want to splash it! CRD- Can you post some pics of your boat? I would love to see it. Thanks, Stan

We've done lots of sanding/grinding since those were taken. Might 'glass in the stringers (which the boat did not orginally have) tomorrow, and hopefully the keelson before the end of the week.
