I have a mod V tunnel 21' open bow haul and a guy told me that this haul was going to be rigged with a outboard. I was thinking of rigging it with a jet, but I have a jet now an my buddy has a Hallet with a outboard merc, and the boat halls ASS! If any one has any input it would help. If anyone has a motor for sale, I'd like to hear from you.

The advantage a jet will have over an O/B in this application is torque. O/B's are fast on small light boats. When you weigh down a boat with lots of interior, people, stuff, the O/B will suffer with top end performance. If you put an O/B on this hull, I would strongly recommend a 300X.
Good Luck.

Lakeland Marine in Lake Havasu City. Dick Sherrer Marine is in Norwalk (I believe). One thing to keep in mind. You will need a bracket assembly that has knee braces that tie into the stringers. Also, a jack plate would probably work well on that hull. Good Luck

Check scream and fly, I have a 400 pound hull on my eliminator and with a 2.5 Merc (260 hp ) it will run in the 100 mph range. The 260 is a great motor too and doesnt have the weight a 300 runs. Either would be good.

I would stick with a 3.0L (225efi-300x) on that hull. It's a larger, heavier boat, and will like to torque of the bigger motor vs the high winding 2.5, and the weight won't be an issue. Call Lakeland Marine (928)-453-1155, and also try searching on Ebay, and www.screamandfly.com for a used motor.
You will most definitely have to reinforce that transom and tie it into the srtingers though....

red rocker-if you got the bucks go 300x-they have a oil tank(no mixing like a 2.5) and if you get a new motor a warrenty.make sure you get a good jack plate.the ability to adjust the motor heigth is what gets the last bit of speed out of the boat.i have a hydrodynamics rapid jack on my mirage and its works very well.it has a ratchet &cable lift that lifts both sides even in 1/4" increments.boat should run around 100mph with 300x if hull is not to heavy.bring it out to bbsp-i like to check out different boats.

No offense, but I think in a v-bottom application, 75mph is more realistic, perhaps 80 or so with the right prop and transom height. Interiors, stereo's, dual batteries, coolers, bimini tops, etc. weigh these boats down tremendously. Still, there is no way that boat is going to hit 75mph with a jet pump unless you are pushing 700hp or better.
Good Luck...........and post some pics once you get started.

In defense of Randy, HD you should look again the boat is not a V bottom it is a tunnel and he did state that it could run 100mph depending on the weight!

22 dcb runs close to 100(95+) with 300 x.havasu barney has a 22 liberator with a 300 x.supposed to be a little over 95.if you go on dcb website it gives approximate finished weight with single engine at around 2400 lbs.if red rocker doesnt put to much stereo gear in boat and watches the weight it would be possable to run 100 if the hull design is ok-that is the unknown question unless you know somebody else that has done this with the exact same hull.i would get some 1/4 aluminum plate and build a triangular plate /bracket to tie the transom to the stringers so power would transfered to the stringers.the 225x/250x/300x all way about the same-they are 3.0 .liter engines .merc website shows 500lbs and change.thats why you dont see them on little tunnel hulls(mirage, stv).problem is a think a new 300x in a box is about $20,000.when this boat is done it will be interesting.

My bad. It doesn't look like a tunnel until you see the back of it. From the front, it looks just like every other 21' open bow out there.
Randy..........I think you are right that with the right combination of many parts, rigging it light, and "if" the design likes to fly, it could be a 100 mph boat. I will still guess shy of 100 and estimate about 85mph to 90mph with a 300X.
At any rate, that sucka isn't touching 85-90 with a jet pump in it. Not unless you are going to throw a 1000 hp at it. :p I think that would be a hell of a boat with a 300X on it. Talk about, practical and fun to drive all at the same time. I would like to see some pictures of it once it is finished.

FYI:
at100plus on the scream and fly board is selling his '99 Pro Max 300 for $9,500. Leakdown shows about 2% - 3% on each cylinder and the motor has about 100-120 hours on it. Not a bad deal because you don't see these motors for sale (used) very much.
Check the classifieds section for boats larger than 21' in the forum and you will see his thread where he advertises his 21' Skater for sale.

That model boat ( I believe an Ultra)was tested several years ago by Hot Boat with I believe a 2.5 and did not get even close to 70,
