I have a new to me 18 ft gullwing I am putting togeather.
It has had some bottom work done. The boat has no hook at all and is about a 450 lbs hull the intake will be set back 1 inch befor braking out of the back.Do you guys have any insight about why they filled the areas beside the rideplate location befor the ends of the strakes?
Thanks Jake

This boat was raced by a few diffrent people in the 80s at one time HTP raced it Duane said it went around 95 with a 502 and 4 barrol carb.It will be a lake boat now with a 460 Ford It would be great any one had some pics of 18 foot gullwings CP or Earls .Also any good and bad points about this hull would be apreciated.

Cas you living in a dream world?
HB Jet thanks for the pic ,a 18 CP is identacle to my boat ,I do have some pics and will try to get them up by tonight. In the pic you posted you can not see what I am talking about.
Where mine has had the work done is about 3 inches on each side of the ride plate on a gullwing the two inside strakes run the length of the hull inbetwine these strakes is where it is filled it is not a really big deal it all comes out nice with a stright edge and has been speed coated '-------1_____1--------' say this is the bottom of my boat the very center is flat (only on the very back)then up 1/4 inch it is flat agine if you measure over from the 1s one inch out on each side is where it was filled about 1/8 deep for 2 1/4 to the end of the strake. On the pic above this is where you start seeing the hull .

Jake, My Liberty has nearly the same type of modification. Though...it's not a gullwing.

Jake:
Glad to see you are getting the ol' girl in shape for this year's boating season. Have you asked Duane about the bottom work on that boat? I wonder if he did the work, or if it was done before the boat ever made it to his shop.
Steve.

Jake,
My guess is that it was put there to help lift the butt end some. You may not want to hear this but it could be similar to a Delta Pad.

Steve ,Duane had told me that it needed alittle bottom work to speed it up a little.
Those are pics from when I had just bought it from you and had just put it on the dolly.Since I have cut for the set back ,filled the transon light ,bowlight, and fule fills. And today started fitting the rail kit ,I went ahead and bought new 8 feet 2 1/2 alun angle for both sides so the rails will go from the transom to the front seats.
For guys that think rail kits should be cheap think agine for the 3 pices plate alum 3/8 thick(2 for the motor mounts and one for the pump brace) and 2 1/2 angle alum(16 feet) and 2 in band alum (8 feet)for the rail kit I am making, and 6, 2 1/2 by 2 inch mounting blocks has ended up costing me 420 bucks. And that is not and shape just solid sheats. But it will be the way I want them to look.
It still needs alot of work but that is part of the fun to me anyway.

Cas it is just like a v bottom in the center it is just at the very back that it is filled like this no tryangles on the bottom of this boat. And their no drastic changes if you are looking at it.I had just noticed it because the speed coat was rubbed off in the very back.

Jake,
Is it as long as Mike's appears to be? Looks like it's flat all the way up to the intake and maybe a bit forward of it.
A delta pad doesn't necessarily mean the keel is flat the whole length of the boat. Delta pads come in a few sizes with the same idea in mind, to lift the boat. That's my understanding of them after a little crash course in the last couple of days.

Mostly, It is an extension of the lowest strakes on the hull. The keel is still round (i.e. bubble type) from the intake forward.

Cas ,Mike F hit the nail on the head.if you look close you can see the front of the intake hole and how much of a curve it is.it is more like a gradual blend to make the strakes flat in the very back.
But I can see what you are saying to Cas.But there is no flat ness at all in front of the intake.

So it's a Maxi Pad before better lift :D
Whatever you want to call it, I'm still thinking it's there to help get the boat out of the water. It could also very well stabalize the boat more from chine walking?

Well I talked to Jack a little about it and he seemed to think it might have been done, to set it down in the back but said since he could not see it he was not for sure.
I know some of you other guys have one of these what you got for me.
Jake:rolleyes:

Todd:
That's the boat that your "new" pump came from. It looks very lean and mean on that dolly in your driveway, Jake. With the juice, my guess is that you'll be flirting with 90 mph.
Steve.

Todd it will be on the water this summer.I have all the parts it is just a matter of doing alittle glass work and some home rejelling to make her a 30 footer at least untill I can get the whole thing done next winter.
The boat will be set up like this Pump has been set back untill one inch from the back.Berk pump AB Berk imp, inducer,MPD machined intake and back cut shoe and rideplate,Aggressor 9 vein bowl flowed bt MPD and stuffer,Top loader from MPD,Jetaway,Aggressor Droop,FTN placeDiverter.
Hears the week part untill I collect some parts 460 FORD Comp Magmum cam,429 dubble Timing chaine gears,MSD 6 al box and billet dist,blaster2 coil,Victor intake, Biggs stage 3 750 DP (but plan on having it changed to 850dp)and NX Hitman kit.And Short stright Bassetts
Interior will only consist of 2 race buckets lighting foot pedale,10 Gallon IMCO T tank, and N20 Bottle.
The hull is probely around 400 to 450 Lbs there is no roving in this hull from what I can see it is all cloth I do not even see any matt(thought I am sure there is some)
The boat has ran over 90 befor but with more motor.
Yea Steve I love the thing like I said I hatted to see you sell it but glad it was to me.

the bare hull was $5500.00 and he builds a pretty cool pickefork tunnel that he has a lake cap for or a single seat race cap thats super cool the tunnel is not like anything that you have seen around here you would just have to talk to him to get details but he races one on the circuit
