use the coursest you can find & get with it..... If you want to get those tanks out, Cut those side deals off, pull the tanks out, install New ones or a T-Tank and install a turnbuckle from the stringers up to the side like this.........

Just in case you haven't done it yet, Sanger Rich:
Get a respirator. And I don't mean a paper mask. Ground fiberglas is nasty stuff and gets lodged deep in the lungs...and can haunt you later in life, particularly if you work with it regularly.
Ask any of the other painters or glas-guys on the boards; we all know somebody one way or the other who's suffered later on down the road...
If you're already on top of all this, then cool. it's just that I shot Imron for several years, and it would have been on my conscience to have just breezed though this thread and not said anything.

I took mine all the way to wood. Mostly because of the previous repair attempt. I had some stress cracks and since I was that far into it why not go all the way.
I laid the new glass down myself with help from a bud. Since my plan is to put a balsa floor in about 2 or 3 years after I finish the initial restoration I didn't worry about it looking Billy B super-sano. It really wasn't that hard if you put some thought into it before you start.
From the looks of the pics your not far behind me. I've got my floor done, the top stripped, the cap seam almost filled and then flip it and do the bottom. lol, at the rate I'm getting things done you should be on the water about 6 years before me.

That wasn't a flag you found down by the tank........It is a fuel gauge:D

396,
What did you use to fill cap seam?
Rich, did you get the pics I sent ya?Laying the glass in is not that bad.How much delam is there?Scuff it good the blow the dust out then clean with Acetone.I put the new in the transom yesterday. It's finally going back together.Just keep your eye on the prize.:D :D

Flatrat, we filled the seam with a product called simply enough "Fiber filler" from Fiberlay. Took me just over a quart for a 18' 5" flattie. I've tried some other products that claim to be the same thing and aren't. The fiberlay stuff has milled fibers mixed into it with all the bulking agents. It's about the consistency of vaseline. The other stuff I found had chopped fibers in it, great for patching the propshaft hole, bad for cap seam....

I'll send 'em again. The small circle and the stringer delam shouldn't be that big of deal.Just grind out the circle making sure you get down to wood.Feather the edges and lay in some glass, resin. The stringer will be about the same just a liitle more of it.I used a die grinder w/a cutoff wheel to cut the glass off of my stringers.Use some 24 or 36 grit paper to scuff it.I am by no means "joe glass guy" but it's working for me.
