It's -2 outside and I'm thinking of modding the motor in a 95, 21.5 ft. Mariah, with a Alpha outdrive. Cam, intake, heads, not to wild, the outdrive won't take that but just a good all round lake runner and cruzin boat. It already has Captain Calls on it. Thanks guys....ps to cold to go snowmobiling.....

Build yourself a 383. Will make a world of difference.

Still got that 144 kit gathering dust. It's sitting down at the Portland boat show right now at the Pacific Power boats booth...easy bolt on, 10mph, $1500!

Depends how bad you want to go faster! ride the sled down haha! Show lasts through weekend. I'll be hittin' the LA show in 3 weeks, then over to AZ to drop outdrive off at Max machine works.

Yeah, I'll be at the show Sunday. I'm just enjoying the hell out of watching pdx get "pounded" by snow when I've been knee deep in it since christmas.

Why stroke it. The outdrive already doesn`t have enough ass to handle what you got. Throw the 350at it and have fun. Rpm performer(dirt cheap used), whatever 4 gun carb ya got rebuilt, stock heads(just check for burnt valves and replace stem seals) that you should spend a bill on to have shaved (15-25), and a Lunati mild cam.
Yep. That oughta do it.
Not all boats are made to go fast. Some are actually built just to have fun in.

I hear you HOSS. The outdrive is the weakest link. Some mild cam and a little porting with a Edelbrock intake and that's about the limit of the Alpha.............. If it's a 95 boat is it a Vortec MerCruiser 350. And can you improve better then the cast intake and heads as a match?

You can always do better. The question is where do you stop and how much money you wanna flush. RPM performer, better intake, lighter, more power and save a lil` fuel. Only money I`d spend on head is what I said unless you want to run 87. If 92 is your gig, then shave them and gain more power. Lunati cam because I love a lopey idle. Who doesn`t? Great low and mid range with this combo and tow skiers all day. Have fun.

PP230- It's a brand new, complete in the box Holley 144 marine polished s/c kit for sbc. Mentioned it several times on forums but no takers. go to holleys website and check it out for more info. It's around $ 2200 anywhere else. Will take $1500 plus shipping. Sand Dawg- forgot you had vortec heads, just slap some 72- 76cc chamber heads like Dart iron eagles and voila! It gets old hearing all the naysayers talking about how the alpha won't take it. You don't HAVE to hit it wide open all the time. Just get on plane 2/3 throttle or so which will be as much power as you had. Once it's trimmed and at your old top speed roll on the throttle. Shit, this is a HOT BOAT site, if you don't run on the edge at times WTF? We have ran two 350 w/144's on Alphas in 20' v-hulls no probs. Cam and or intake change would be a waste of money IMO if you already have vortec heads. MAYBE 1-2 mph.

IMO----if you threw a $2200 SC kit at a stock motor you`d be ignorant!

I had my old boat from 1992 to 2003. Nothing wrong with building what you have, lots cheaper than a new boat....

Is putting a tame SC setup on a stock 350 that is in decent shape a bad idea?
It obviously would increase the pressure on already worn components. But it WTF?
So you start digging for the right block, crank, rods, cam, and heads to put under the sc next Winter. It gives ya something to do.
Good debate. I'm asking these same questions.
HP350SC, What kind of exhaust setup are you running? How hard do you twist this combo tail? Was this a mess to sort out tunning wise? And how many hours do you have on the engine and SC?
Compromise put us in 20'ers with smallblocks, that's where many of us live. A $20-30K HP setup isn't in the cards.
We be listening. :p

Not interested in "debate" All I can say is my old boat had a TON of hours on it and ran excellent. Have been in contact with new owner and it still runs fine a year later.I just bought some used tips, elbows and 4" exhaust hose from CP and ran the stock 350mag. manifolds. There are various ways to do your ignition. I went full MSD(most expensive and not necessary) Using Crane HI-6M on new boat as you can keep the Merc. distributor which is Hall effect trigger(better than MSD magnetic trigger). Cheapest way is to use a V6 module. Total timing cannot exceed 30 deg. You will need a hi-volume fuel pump and gauge to monitor pressure so as not to drop below 6 lbs. Also need to remove the check ball in your fuel tank pickup. For carburetion, I replaced the 625cfm Weber with a 750 marine Edelbrock cuz it was cheap, jetted it rich-worked fine at 68 mph. After 2 years with blower finally had original 10 yr. old head gasket leak. Went with 72cc chamber Dart heads to lower compression, split duration cam and Holley 80557 blower carb. Upped boost from 5 to 7 lbs. Took the old tub to 72mph. New owner has reported 74 mph in cold temperatures. I ran this boat agressively, never turned down a race and suckered quite a few with "sleeper" appearance. Of course you don't hold it wide open under boost more than 30 seconds at a time. Will try to dig up some more old pics.....
