I have a 96 DCB with a 375 hp 454 Magnum motor.
I have a 24 lab 4 blade prop at this time and do apx. 65 mph at 4800 rpm, what prop change would give me the most improvment in top end speed without reducing the hole shot too much?
Also is a 4 blade or 3 blade prop the best to achive what I'm looking for?

Mike, try a 23 mirage 3 blade. Although if your using the stock HEI ignition at 4800 you could be against the limiter. Cliff

Mike, a tuned 3 blade will almost always outrun a 4blade prop. There are lots of good prop shops out there that offer custom tunning (ours does). Let me know where you are and i can recommend one to you.

Hey Mike, I have a 22'EXTREME with a Carb non Mag motor. I don't think a 4 blade is necessary on this boat, maybe until higher speeds. I am turning a lab finished 23" mirage prop to close 4800 rpms and conisistently running 62-64 mph with an all time best of 65.7 on gps. Unless I'm mistaken,(I often am) the 454 mag rev limiter is about 4950. Where do you boat? what does your DCB look like? If you find me at Havasu some time this summer you are welcome to try my Labbed 23. It made a huge difference over the 21 mirage+, and I can still pickup an adult on slalom.

Sorry, thought I would join in to say that I am the proof of the 65.7 on gps that XTRM22 did!! I saw it myself! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/smile.gif

Just for the record, The 454 mag has an rpm limit at 5150 rpm.

Thanks 1stepcloser, I knew it was higher then the non mag motor. When I first got the 23" I could bump the rev limiter at 4650-4700 on my non-mag 454, so I switched to a Mag ignition module (thx Mltdwn12) and had the 23 mirage labbed. I only picked up 100-150 rpm but it was right at the sweet spot for 2-3 mph. I'm no where near the rev limiter now but someday.....

I went from a 25" Mirage to a 28" bravo! gained 10 MPH.
Here is a suggestiong, depending on the height of your drive, get an imco shorty unit. I had to redo my transom and raised my motor and drive 3" at the same time.
WOW!!
Its like a new boat.
P.S. And IMCO would tell you if it may work and how short (1" or 2" drive) to go
