Has anyone ever done a conversion from a Berkeley JE pump to a JG. How much, how hard was it and if they notice any performance gains. Not sure if this is possible or not.

Meaning putting a split bowl on? I saw one and it had a place diverter on it too.

you can add a split bowl. There won't be any performance gains if both bowls are in the same condition. The advantage of having a JG or split bowl design is you can add a droop (or snoot) and wedges to alter the thrust line to better suit your hull.

Show him the pics HB. If I keep mine I`m having my JC drilled to JG.

Putting a split bowl on a 12 JE does not make it a 12 JG. I think he is talking about removing the insert pump (12JE) and installing a 12 JG pump complete with intake & all. Am I right Taylorman?
If so, the hole in the transom and bottom has to be filled and start over from scratch. A seperate hole for the intake will have to be cut in the bottom in the correct place and a new hole in the transom also. The motor will have to move forward and be properly aligned.
This is a short version of the work required to complete this project.
Done properly (ride plate etc) you will definitely get a performance increase.

You know, I think he might be talking about that now looking at the question again. If so, then yeah, you would need to remove the pump, reglass the hull, and re-cut the hull for the newer pump and intake. And Havasu47 is right about the motor. Before doing this, make sure you have the room to move the motor forward.

Yes, I was talking about a whole new pump. Actually, I don't have the room to move the motor forward.

Why do you want to change out the entire pump? or is the 'e' intake damaged and you need to change the intake regardless?
Seems like one heck of a project to take on. The 'e' pump is not a bad pump. Yes, it may not flow as well as a G pump above 90mph but you can add a split bowl, shoe and ride plate and gain substantial performance. If your intent is to turn your boat into a competition drag boat, maybe the project is worth while. If not, I think you should look into other ways of having the split bowl advantage as HBjet referred to.

That would be intersting a ,I have never seen a SJ drag boat.
did Oasker ever race any of his modles?

Honestly, i will probably never do it, just inquiring. Dwayne had an SJ that did 90.

The interesting part is, it looks like if you setback the G (thru the transom), you wouldn't have to fill anything. Looks like the engine positionwould change very little too.

Tricky1 what kind of hull is that you have there? I was camped/beached next to a guy at one of our local lakes last summer that had a boat like yours. If I remember correctly he said that the bottom was from the old sleekcraft molds and whoever bought em put a different deck on it.
I really like the looks of those boats. Very unique. This guy I met had an 871 blower on a BBC and the boat was really clean (green n white). I believe he said he was running in the low 80's with his.
Just curious and like I said, I've always liked the looks of them (especially the deck) although it looks like it would be hard to sit on it without sliding off.
Just went and looked at your profile to see it is a Sleekcraft. Do you know if they got bought out by someone that's still using the molds?
Thanks
Dan
Oh and just so I'm not a total thread stealer, I'd say stick with the JE too Taylorman. That's a lot to go through if you're using it as a lake boat.

Kevin if you want to haul ass get a different hull cause Daune said that these dont do well at high speeds.

Matt, I almost thought that was your boat for a minute. Hows yours coming along. When hunting season is over (end of Feb.), i will pull my engine to fix the oil leak.

Hey Dan, yes it is a Sleekcraft boat by Nescher, he's the original founder of Sleekcraft. It's the SST model (super sport tunnel) 20'. They made several different tops with that same bottom and gave them different model names like Aristocrat, and others I can't remember. I think that deck is very cool too! It's very strong due to all the contours, but your right, you'd better stay in the middle or your sliding off!
Sleekcraft was acquired by Magic Boat of Lake Havasu. They are still producing boats under both names. I spoke to a rep from Magic lst year at the LA Boat show and he said they still have the mold for my boat. If someone else has it, they either bought it from them or splashed it.
To stay on subject for T-man, I have the JF pump, which is the same as the "E" but it had a jetovator. The bowl was worn out at the nozzle seal area and I couldn't keep that nylon o-ring in there. I installed a split bowl and place diverter and I'm happy with it....still trying to find "the set-up". I have a back-cut shoe, performance ride plate and a pro-type loader to try out yet. Hoping to get to the magic 80mph mark. Dan, I'm impressed your progress...very nice work you've done there, (and thanks for putting up that pic, i dig that one). Taylorman I believe I may have shown you this pic before...hope it helps.
