Nah, that's a Ford. You know how those Ford guys are. Always making false claims of speed. (snicker snicker hee haw)
He's claiming the motor by itself has 700 hp? Not a chance. One thing's for sure, if I had a motor that had $13,000 worth of hardware in it, I'd be telling ya all about it. It's got a comp cam and lifters. That's one expensive camshaft.
He's not braggin about any trick pump work or setup stuff? I'd say he's lucky if he's running over 70.
Geez what a bullshitter!

I just emailed him asking if he would guarantee the speed on a GPS :)

Squirtcha?
01-09-2004, 08:22 AM
Tell em you'll take it out with a gps and he can knock off $100 for every mph under the claim. If it'll only run 70 mph, you'll get the boat for $1000. Imagine getting a boat with a $13,000 motor, for a grand! Wouldn't that be something?
This guys cracks me up.

jet4fun
01-09-2004, 08:31 AM
has he answered you back???
tell him if that boat goes 110 on gps then you'll fly out there and give him 10 grand, rent a truck and tow it home....
if it doesnt go 110+ then he needs to reimburse the round trip ticket and buy a 12er... see if he changes his tune then
wait a minute, he said the motor was dyno'ed at over 700h.p. tell him to e-mail the sheets...

Cyclone, I'm with you on that upholstery. It's got to be worth 20 or 30 mph at least! Wish I had those front seats, be dam comfortable in the living room watching the football game. They'd match my Velvet Elvis pictures. 110 mph,,,NOT!

THE BOAT HAS OVER $ 20,000 INVESTED IN IT AND OVER $13,000 IN THE MOTOR ALONE.
He should have put some money into fixing all the fiberglass damage where there was once a rub rail. Shitty paint job as well.

I was thinking I had some competition here. I have just over 700hp with my motor. But it didn't cost me 13k that's for sure. I do have 12 quart oil pan though. Muse be why I can only run in the 90's and he is at 110. Must be all that extra oil slowing me down.
I can't help but laugh...

NO OTHER BOAT ON THE LAKE WILL TOUCH THIS BOAT WITHOUT NITROUS.
Next I expected to read the one about taping the $50 dollar bill to the dash and no one could grab it because the boat's violent acceleration had them plastered back in the seat.
And then, "It was an ex race boat"

Not only does it sound like this guy is full of shit, but I'm guessing he has some shills bidding it up too.
Check who's bid on the boat and then check his feedback, and what the common link found in both has been buying.
The current high bidder has 0 feedback so this seller may get a taste of his own (bullshit) medicine.

Well, we're getting down there. What happened to the 110 mph? Maybe if'n ya keep after him we'll get down to a little more realistic number.
One thing's for sure, if that boat goes 100+ it's one hell of a sleeper and should be at the track.
Someone was right when they said those heads look like stock irons. If they are, it's pretty much impossible to get em to flow much over 200 on the exhaust side. I seriously doubt you could get that kind of hp out of those iron heads.

The guy honestly believes that this boat will run 104+. The only thing I can figure is that he had his gps set on km/hour. I'd love for one of us to take a ride-along in this boat to see firsthand what the speed is. If the best minds in the jetboat biz can't make a boat like this run over 100 mph with 700 HP, then this guy is in the wrong business. He should be building 100 mph jetboats.

Or being a bullsh*tter. Are the two the same? He said Wednesday right?
It's not about hate. It's about reality vs mr Rogers dream world let's all get along and pat each other on the back mentality. Where do you want to live?
I have no doubt a tweeked jet with the right hull can run 104 with 700 actual hp. Mine runs 100 with about 650 actual. Does his jet run that on the engine with a claimed dyno 700 hp and unknown pump...very doubtful. Maybe with a healthy dose of N2O (apparantly not hooked up now), but still doubtful. If he's got balls, show us the numbers and stats or shut the f*ck up. Or drag it to Lake Mead and prove it to me. I wouldn't drive 2200 miles for a bullsh*tter. In fact, I wouldn't drive 50 miles to buy that piece of sh*t even if it runs 70 mph.

The dude is legitimately selling his boat on eBay with written claims of over 100 mph runs. Usually as a buyer, it is your responsilbilty to go and inspect the merchadise in question. Why would he drag it 2200 miles to Lake Mead to prove to a non potential buyer it can run 100+ mph. For the most part, half of the haters wouldn't know what a 700 hp motor or a 100 mph boat looked like if it was right in front of their faces. Many people made statements regarding the authenticity of the 100 mph claim, nothing wrong with that. But you would have to agree when it was their time to man up when the seller called them out to actually find this claim true or false, they punked out. This guy might or might not have what he claims, but let the BUYER beware and the haters keep typing.

No I didn't and I'm not here to debate its authenticity or if it was provoked. Just stating that "if" that's the response, I would pass, nothing more. Probably just should have kept my mouth shut. I find that more and more these days on ***boat. ;)

"Why would he drag it 2200 miles to Lake Mead to prove to a non potential buyer it can run 100+ mph."
I don't expect him to. Neither would I travel 2200 miles based on a bogus ebay claim.
"half of the haters wouldn't know what a 700 hp motor or a 100 mph boat looked like if it was right in front of their faces."
Haters? Why label those who call out a bullsh*ter as haters? Maybe they just call it like it is without the sugar coating. Like I said, his claims not impossible, just highly unlikely. BTW I know 100 mph and 700 hp. And I can back up my claims with more than a statement like, "you pussy boys don't have what it takes to drive this jet." Ya whatever.
"This guy might or might not have what he claims, but let the BUYER beware"
Let the buyer beware...are you a hater?
Rex, please, say whatever you think.

I did not invent the term haters, just borrowed it from previous threads. It seems fitting, doesn't it.
Currently, I don't want to buy this or any other boat so why would I go there and waste the sellers time and mine.

Wow, didn't realize how serious you were Chris.
The thing that bugs me most is when someone knowingly misrepresents an item they're trying to sell. If it truly is a misrepresentation (lie) then they're doing it intentionally to take advantage of those they're attempting to sell it to. Yes, yes buyer beware and all that, and I suppose it's possible that whoever would buy a boat sight unseen on the seller's word, deserves to be taken advantage of, however I don't see it quite that way.
I believe I was conservative enough in my posting to show doubt, but not hatred.
I'm done with this one (although I may go back and read some to make sure that I'm not lying about the doubt thing now).
Good luck to whoever buys the thing.

You wouldn't be out to much money if the claims are bogus, he only requires .20 % (that's 2/10 of 1 percent) from the winning bidder. What is that???? .... $11.20 :D
Then if it didn't work out, walk away, take the negetive feedback and have a good laugh.

Gotta be enough there to back up his claims eh?

And I'm not finished posting on this subject or done with it or any other BS topic. Post what you think Rex, and everyone else feel free. The seller is also more than welcome to post what he thinks and defend his ad...he has the link. Just because this thread's controversial doesn't mean it's a hate thread or not worth posting to. To me it's about truth. I have always posted my true numbers. I don't lie about stuff I sell. Does this jet run 110 as the seller states or not? Pretty simple. And key to his selling point. Should we just say, oh well, he's just trying to sell it for as much as he can get from some poor shmuck who doesn't know so let him be? And buyer beware good luck mr. shmuck? Whatever. SERIOUS MONEY???? Isn't that right in the same area as what you figured you could get for that floating towel rack of yours IIRC?
Funny, I haven't heard one person on here come anywhere even close to saying his bullshit might be true because it has an MPD pump. Hell, this bullshitter himself didn't say it was an MPD pump, he skirted that too. Nowhere did he claim it was an MPD pump, he used an old used car salesman trick to imply it did. Looks like it's working on all the newbie E-Bayer's too, doesn't it? Except for this guys shill buddy, all these bidders have what, 10 feedback points between them all? They deserve whatever they get.
It doesn't matter if Jesus Christ himself did the pump work, bullshit is still bullshit.
And we all know who the REAL ignorant ass and #1 shit stirrer is around here. It's you, mr. towel rack schmuck. http://deephousepage.com/smilies/jerkit.gif

Anyway he did not answer any of the questions I asked him about what was done to the engine, pump and bottom work.
All he stated was the boat belonged to a friend and they think they have about $8k in receipts for work that has been done on the boat.
The pump is a Berkeley 12-JE model and thats it. :D
So I guess that tells us the pump is set back but has that funky intake / ride plate set up under it with no shoe.
I have been told that the 12-JE pump set up is not that good for high performance use and was mostly used for ease of installation. Is that true ?
Below is what Berkeley says about the pump.
Berkeley Jet Drive Model 12JE
DESCRIPTION: The Model 12JE Jet-Drive is constructed of a super-tough, high-strength, aluminum alloy, castings the finest and most serviceable material available. Precision machined and hard-anodized, assembled with stainless steel fasteners, assures maximum performance with a minimum of maintenance. Dissimilar metals are protected from each other by inert insulators to retard corrosion. Using Berkeley's unique single stage, mixed flow, impeller, this unit gives maximum thrust per horsepower. Developed over a period of many years, and field tested, assures the user of the Model 12JE Jet-Drive many years of trouble-free boating. A popular unit with boat manufacturers because of its ease of installation in specially molded hulls.
APPLICATION: Designed for fast, simple installation in specially molded hulls measuring 14 to 24 feet in overall length, with a gross weight of not over 5,000 pounds per unit, including passengers and gear.

Rumor has it that the boat was only running on 6 or 7 cylinders and gps was only 99 mph and they could not break the 100 mph mark.
Found that the C117 racing gas was to hot for the engine and melted the electrodes off of 2 spark plugs with the total timing set at 46 degrees. The 600 carbs only have #62 primary jets and stock metering plates in the secondarys and the engine went lean at 6800 rpm up on the top end. They say the rpm's were down from the normal 7200 it turns.
The engine will get a complete high performance tune up with in the days to come by a local ford performance master tech.
Whos going to eat crow now ?

I don't know who's going to eat crow, but if those numbers are correct, I'm impressed by the speed, but have to wonder about the condition of the engine. Running on 6 or 7 cylinders, stock jetting in the 600 Holleys, leaned out at 6800 rpm, 46 degrees of timing, 2 melted spark plugs, and race gas "too hot" for the engine?
While 99 mph is VERY impressive for a boat like that, it's certainly not 110 mph, and it sounds like the engine is a time bomb. We have to assume that when it made it's 700HP dyno pulls and 110 mph "clocked" top speed runs, that the same 600 Holleys were in place and that the engine had the same setup as described above.
I say good job on getting to 99 mph, but buyer beware.

this is great I love it. 46 degrees total timing:eek: it's got me thinking. my pickup shuts down at 99mph. wonder if he wasn't counting on the tow vehicle shutting down when he took his GPS with him. better tow it with a faster truck next time;) :D

That's obvious. Another newbie e-Bay'er with 2 feebacks will bid it up before it's over. Still plenty of time to jump on this bad boy!

And just like I said, another newbie e-bayer jacks the bid up $800.
Question is, shill or just stupid?

6 or 7 cylinders? Ya whatever.
Nice story Calboats but already seen that bogus claim posted by another bullsh*ter about a different jet on these boards. I say, be no peace keeper, or crow eater worry wart. Just call fako sh*t for what it is.
Boat sellers with car salesman (v-drive) mentality should be called out for what they are. In the photos he seems honest about rail dings and flaws. But most potential jet boat buyers focus on performance not so much cosmetics. Thinking no big deal I can fix that fiberglass flaw when I get the money...at least it goes REALLY fast! You think the seller doesn't know this? So does the sellers supposed honesty in cosmetics carry over to performance? Is 70 mph the same as 110 or 100 mph? Now rumor has it 99? Ya whatever.
As in not likely.

Jer, I know it's all BULLSHIT and thats why I posted it, You do remember I'am the one that started this thread about his bullshit claims of 110 mph in that thing.
I for one and yourself know just what it takes to go that fast in a jet and this boat he is trying to pawn off will never do it.
My CP Comp Tunnel was 50 times the boat that this guy has and the best it ever ran was 104 mph so believe me I know it's bulshit.
The post that I made about the 99 mph bullshit was e-mailed to me my another member here on the boards and thought you guys would get a laugh out of it.

I machined two spacers to help on the cost. Figured I would sell the other one later on. I could make you a new one, or I could just machine the center out of the 4-hole I have. Let me know what you want to do.

I'm wondering if in today's lawsuit society if the seller could be sued if the boat did not run the speed or have the HP stated in the auction. Anybody know?

mickeyfinn
01-18-2004, 06:06 PM
I would assume that it would be "fraud" or something similar and the buyer could sue for a refund or maybe even sue for however much it would cost to bring the boat up to advertised standards.

Cas
01-18-2004, 08:24 PM
misrepresentation, fraud and false advertising just to name a couple. There's all kinds of stuff the buyer can do should the boat not go it's advertised speed.
Hell, the guy could have advertised it did 75 and possibly got the same amount?

King Kuracz
01-19-2004, 12:18 PM
All that would prove is that there are a whole lot of stupid people out there.
To anyone who knows much at all about these boats that's a 4 grand boat tops.
The buyer should send his .20% like it says, and make him backup his claim before laying down the rest of the cash. If his claims can't be proven, walk away $13 lighter and make him sue you.
Once the buyer lays down the cash his chances of ever getting any of it back are slim at best, especially if he is any distance away from the seller.
My bet is that we will see this one on E-Bay again, either with a new seller or the same old one. Shouldn't be hard to spot this guys creative writing again next time.

Yep it's viable, I was there on one of his runs. You can see the boat on the LBBA website in the Past Events under Tower Park 1, or maybe it's TP2, can't remember. There's also a video of him making one of his passes.

LVjetboy
01-20-2004, 01:08 AM
Couldn't find the video.
But there's a comment on top speed. Assuming identical run conditions(?), is that PlaceCraft lighter than the Kona? I think that's the first question. My PC is about 800-850 lbs bare.
Hull design influences drag too, but that's not the only thing. Then there's setup Tim mentioned. Those combined make a difference. To try to compare two different fully configured boats and draw conclusions is tough to do if you don't know all the variables. Even with the same engine.
I believe a tunnel will be slower off the line, but at what speed does the PC tunnel kick in...is it 80? Don't know for sure.
I also think Tim's quoted speeds are accurate. Worth mentioning compared to the BS speed comments from that ebay seller.
