No Excuse, I was out until 1am (drunk) and still woke up in time....ok, maybe i was alittle late too. I got at the dunes at 10am. Beer Hunter(Mike) & DCFive?(Dave) was waiting for me in Avalon.....was your Signature the 2nd boat out of the mold???
Next weekend sounds good to me. Which day works for you the best???

The first pod was the large dolphins, maybe a dozen of them just a few miles outside of Avalon, the second pod of smaller dolphins were just east of the shipping lanes (alittle over half way back). As far as the eyes could see was nothing but dolphins, maybe 500-600 of them. It took me over 45 minutes to idle through them...AWESOME
Shake Yo Azz, lets shoot for sunday (weather permiting). GF's parents & sis want to tag along. Let me know
Pops, where have you been???? Haven't heard a peep out of ya for awhile. You coming out to play Pres. day weekend??? 4 days of hell:D Looking forward to Todd's Polar Bear Poker Run that sat.

Luvr, been real busy at work. The Mrs and I did manage to finally get out in the boat today. Just fooled around out in the Ocean out of Huntington Harbor. How do you think the Cheetah would do on a Catalina Run? What's the date for that Presidents day deal?

Pops, Pres Day weekend is the National Pyro Comp with a HUGH display on sat night. Also, Jokers Wild & RRX is putting together a Polar Bear Poker Run, Reg fri night at Hot Laps with one race included, sat poker run, sat night floatilla in the bay for the display, sun morning brunch for poker hand awards in the London Bridge Resort...sounds like alot of fun......you game? Feb 13-16
PS. the past few trips to catalina has been very smooth. Your CHeetah would make it with no problems, it may be alittle bouncey for Mrs Rod. I'm heading out sunday to Catalina. Taking the GF's parents & sis out. You should think about it...weather permitting

Hey Guys,
Looks like your trip was awsome! It looks like the conditions were perfect. Out of curiosity, on a day like that, would I have trouble trying to make that trip in a 22 foot boat? An Essex Vortex to be exact. Looking at the pictures from HL's boat, it looks more calm than a day at the lake.
Thanks - Vik

Hey BENZEEN, 22'er is very small. Condition would have to be "PERFECT" to try. I have seen conditions change 3-4 times from the Dunes to Catalina. It maybe best to hitch a ride with someone else so you can experience it. My previous boat was a 26' open bow midship cabin and I would not take it out..

I personally think a 22' is fine. You just need to check the swell hieghts and forecasts. I know poeple who have taken 15' whalers to cortez bank. We took my buddies 17' whaler over to Catalina from newport all the time, at night. A 22 is fine. If it gets to rough you just take it easy.

I noticed that there was another thread that StarLoans posted with regard to their trip to Catalina last Sunday. He posted pictures of Faster Daddy in his 24 Lavey on some pretty good water. That is what originallly peeked by curiosity, a 24 footer going to Catalina.
Thanks for the info,
Vik

I rode in a 24 Ultra going and 24 Lavey coming back. 24s seem to be just fine in good weather. We had 3-5 ft swells with some 7s now and then. There was little wind.
There was another post I believe, from Faster about how the different conditions make a difference. Wind waves, time between swells, etc. You don't wanna just jump in your boat and go play in the big pond.
I would not take kids, elderly people or people with medical conditions in Saturdays' conditions in a 24. You don't notice it in the pics but you do a bit of bouncing.
I would always go with another boat and someone would have to have a radio and gps.
