hey guys, ive got a 18ft dimarco with 454/berk/jc-a.the motor is nothing special.basset headers and a eddie torker intake, holley 750 double pumper.i had a lifter collapse on me on the last day of the year.im thinkin a 282/533 by crane would do the trick.im not wanting to get into the heads(spring rates).am i on track?the pump holds the motor to 4900rpms.thanks in advance..........kurt.....

A camshaft with about 270 degrees advertised and 224 degrees @ .050 would work much better on the intake valve. Add about 6 degrees more duration for the exhaust valve (276 advertised / 230 @ .050). Close lobe centerlines of 110 degrees will give the engine a nasty sounding idle. Keep the valve lift to less than .540 inches for reliability. It will peak out at about 5,000 rpm.

I recommend the XR276HR part #01-416-8 for your engine. It has 224/230 intake/exhaust duration @ .050 with a 110 LSA and .510/.510 intake/exhaust valve lift. Install it with a 108 intake lobe centerline to cut down on water ingestion at idle.
You won't be sorry, it is a great camshaft for a 502 Gen VI and will work great for a pump engine! Should put you close to 500 horsepower @ 5000 rpm with lots of torque.
