Does GM make a marine version of the ZZ502 or are people putting the regular version in their boats?
If you have to have something done to them your self, what do you have to do to make it a marine engine?

I don't think so.
I think they were talking about sterndrive apps. when they say "npt for marine use" but I don't know enough about those to give any good reasons. A jet or v-drive would probably be fine, just need the external marine specific items.

The parts from my 454 will bolt right on to a 502, correct?

Yes, they are pretty much the same, the cranks are different 'cause of the one piece rear main but that shouldn't be an issue. I doubt if you'll want to put your 454 crank in it.

I could be wrong, sometimes am, but I'm not so sure that 454 parts will bolt on a 502. If you do buy a crate 502, they usually have just about everything you need. Someone with more knowledge can post a better response.

to use the ZZ502 for a jetboat, you will want to change out the freeze plugs to brass, and i would change the head gaskets. the factory ones i hear dont hold up to the preasures a jet can and sometimes will creat. there are other devices to combat that problem. the 502 does not use the mechanical fuel pump, so you will have to get an electric one. some parts are interchangable from the 454 to the 502, and most accesories bolt right on. the oil pan is differant. the heads are useable, but the water jackets have been changed a bit on the 502, though some have used the mark4 heads with differant gaskets. internals are not the same, nore is the timing chian/gear cover. im sure ive left some stuff out, but thats all i can think of at the moment.

If you're looking at the ZZ502 you should look at Teague's Merlin 509. 575HP, set up for marine use with a different oil pan, comes complete from carb to oil pan for about 10-11K.It is not the full blown 509 they sell with aluminum heads, just a marinized version of the 509 Merlin crate engine with iron heads.
