What year did the first extra cab come out?

It was 88 or later, I want to say 90 or 92. I've seen a few custom jobs but nothing from GM.

Pretty sure it was 88. The 88 to 98 style. In fact I'm sure it was 88 cuz I had a 88 Silverado ex cab.

Wow, they came into it late. Ford had one in '74 that I know of.
Thanks for the info.

If you're meaning "extended" cab then yes 88 was the year but the extra cab goes back a little farther. 85 0r 86.

They didn't need to make an extended cab back then they made the crew cab starting around 76-77. I worked on the assembly line in 78 and painted many many crew cabs and don't remember Ford making one then so I think they both had their own nitch markets.
