I notice they have been billing me twice each month on my credit card so I call my credit card company. The rep tells me there have been TONS of people calling about the same problem. Don't bother trying to tell me AOL doesn't know anything about it, they are ****ing crooks. Now I have to sit on the phone for 45 minutes while I wait for someone to help me.
Who here can tell me the best on-line program because I am canceling my AOL shit

Get a cable modem thriugh your cable company. Mine cost $45 per, and faster than DSL. Aol was $24 and change slower than dog shit. Me very happy

I have never had an issue with them, been using them since the old 9600 dial speed's
I watch my cards all the time on-line for bogus charges.
I have seen double hits for purchases, they usually get reversed back the next day on there own.
Good luck with them, did you try the on-line IM help?

I had AOL years ago. I wanted to cancel it but could not find thier number on my paper work or on thier web site. So I would go online and send them an email saying I would like to cancel. I would never hear back from them. I didn't push it, but would check my email every so often to see if they resonded. This went on for a few months until I finally obtained thier phone number. I called and said that I have been trying to cancel my internet for a few months with no response from them. They said they would cancel it but since I have used it until the time I had called them they would not credit me for the last few months. I told them the only time I used it was to try and contact them. They said prove it. I said f... you! They charged me up until the day I contacted them on the phone. F...ers! The funny thing is the next day they called me to try to get me to sign back up with them.....I went ballistic on the guy on the other end of the phone line. Every other word out of my mouth was f... you, f... that you, f...ing f... I would not wish AOL on my worst enemy. And yes thier service sucked big time!
Sorry for the rant.

Got rid of my AOL a long time ago, had nothing but problems with them. Now on Pacbell DSL. Your best bet is to see which is going to give you a better deal/connection in your area DSL or Cable....

I phoned them at first. Sat on hold for 15 minutes listening to the recording telling me how much faster it would be if I did it on-line so I hung up. Signed on and did exactly what they told me to do in order to get a hold of someone. I tried 3 different ways and all three resulted in "error, website not responding"
Called them back, waited on hold for another 15 minutes, got a hold of a rep named Guatalupe. Here is how the convo went.
Me: Hi, for some reason, you guys are billing me twice every month for the past 3 months.
Guatalupe: AOL doesn't just bill someone twice, you must have multiple accounts.
Me: ahhhh, yeah. I do that all the time since I have so much extra money laying around, I like to reward companies like yourselves that give me such customer satisfaction.
Guatalupe: Sir, I found the problem, you have 2 accounts. One is listed under your screen name and the other is listed under _____,
The other account was listed under a secondary screen name which my brother uses which you can do for free under aol's plan. I think each account is allowed 5 extra screen names. (his being the ONLY one) So what they did was created a second account under his screen name, billed me twice a month for 3 months and to top it all off, tried to blame me for it.
Sorry so long, just wanted peeps to take a good look at your account statments cause ya never know.

Shock- The same thing happened to me, they said I requested the new account off of one of my screen names that I DELETED!!!
After I screamed at him for a few minutes he gave me a few months credit that I could apply on my account over the next few months.
Good luck

AO-Hell is a nightmare! It will take more than one phone call to get these jackals off you for sure. I canceled my service with them a long time ago and six months later got another charge on my card. When I called them to say WTF they told me they had given me six months of free service to see if I still wanted it and since I hadn't canceled they continued my billing! I spent ten minutes with a lady telling her in no ways did I want their service, and finally had to say "Listen. I DON'T WANT YOUR SERVICE! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?" She obviously didn't because she went on to tell me about how she could get me a free DSL upgrade, EVEN THOUGH I just finished telling her I lived in an area where there was no service available! I finally got them off my shit and then started receiving phone calls and the CD-Rom starter kits every month. Shockwave, if you need a good plan to get rid of them PM me. I know a website that has a step-by-step process that works real well.

I have Quest DSL at work and Cox cable internet at home. They still make us use AOL at work but we are on a much cheeper plan since we have our own ISP now. ;)

Uh, I work for AOL, sorta, and you know what? THEY SUCK BALLS!!
Hands down the best is Road Runner High Speed Online. It's cable modem. THe only problem is that it's $50 a month. Super fast though.

Go to Yahoo and check out the dsl pricing, it's cheap compared to AOL. $30.00/month and no hastles. Digital cable is an option as well. If you really dispute the 3 months of false charges, call your credit card company, dispute the billing, ask for a refund and they'll apply pressure. Document everything and when they screw your credit up, you can back up your claim and take them to the wall.

I have cable modem, I use it 99.99999% of the time. But I do still maintain an AOL account, I have it down to 3 hours for $4.95 a month, I use it strickly for E-mail puposes.
The advantage to this is when you are traveling, you can get into anyones computer & retreive your E-mail, or if you have a laptop of your own you can get a local access number where you are at for AOL. I have the wife foward all of my new E-mail from cable account over to the AOL account. Works good.
I know that the cable co, has remote dial in for e-mail, but they are never a local number for & sometimes difficult to use from a far off city.
I know AOL sucks, but hell for 4.95 a month, I waste more than that at the local strip joint ever month.

I know it's not the fastest, but for $9.94 a month, I am happy w/ my WalMart connect. I kept AOL for a long time because I was used to the layout, well wmconnect has the same exact format, but cheaper. They actually have a contract with AOL.
When I cancelled my AOL they gave me 2 month free to get any emails. If you don't call them back after the 2 months, they start charging again, which they did. So I call back and they say okay, we will give you 2 months free. I said "No, cancel it NOW, I am NOT calling you back" They did. A few days later I find out the wife logged on to check her mail. Well, if you log on after you have been cancelled, it reactivates the account.
I found an easy way to stop the sh!t, I closed my bank account, and since they only had my debit card # they were sh!t out of luck.:D :D

AOL completely sucks. My advice to anyone with it would be to dump them like a bad habit. And then un-install their shitty ass software from your computer.
Get yourself cable or DSL. If you can't swing the money get a local service provider for dial-up. Use Internet Explorer and Outlook Express for your browser and email respectively. You will be so much happier.

You can do what you are referring to with nationwide access to your email with a yahoo or hotmail account for free.

I cancelled AOL at the end of Dec. and they gave me the 2 months for free deal. If I don't call to cancel again they will bill me when the 2 months are up. I also had a hard time finding a phone #. I knew then it was going to be a hassle to get rid of them. Is there no way to get the credit card Co. to not pay them?

Just wait until someone (asshole) gains access to your AOL password and begins shopping. That was a whole nightmare in itself. :D
