Hey Guys,
Am looking at an older Welcraft Scarab 38 footer with triples that has been pretty extensively retrofitted. Power now is triple 454-465hp thru Borg Warner Cyborg trans then TRS drives not sure what prop he is spinning, 4 batteries 300 gals fuel, 50 gals water, a/c and frig no generator. How well did these boats run he says cruise at 3500 rpm at 55mph and top out at 85mph. Very nice looking boat for its age and lot of work done but that seems optimistic for what I would guess is a 12,000 lb boat. Any ideas or am I way off guessing weight?
Thanks,
rick:)

How old is "older" ?
I think you're pretty close on the weight. I'd say closer to mid 70 's. Is the boat local to you? Sea trial!

Does 1981 still qualify as older or way older.. Boat isn't local and trying to see what I can verify without travel.

81 is quite old considering whats out there now. I really recommend posting on OSO (offshoreonly.com) and checking overthere. It is highly likely that someone would know this boat or at least be able to check it out for you.
I can post on there for you if you give me the specs on the boat.
If the boat has been completely re-done and the price is right it would be worth persuing.

CAHotRodBoy,
Thanks for the offer for some reason I haven't been able to post anything there today..
Boat is a 1981 38 footer, triple 465 horse/ 454s thru Borg Warner Trans and TRS drives spinning 23 props. Boat used to be used in Catalina ski races now this owner has in N.Y. and has redone power, gauges, interior, paint etc... he says weight is at 10,500. Was on cover of some magazine for Catalina ski race in 90's as "Team Scarab 138"
Looks like owner did a nice job on it and looks like a nice boat, price is right if motors are new/good the boat is free...
Thanks again,
Rick
