Kent Dunlop, Hey Hud, thanks for your reply. Heres 3 photos for ya. The first two are me in Satans Pride getting a little loose, the other "Plum Grazy" is a boat that I crew on and belongs to a mate of mine Steve "Tradge" Rosewarne. We both run in the ProCom class here in New Zealand and are both former national champions. (Procom = 470 cuin Naturally Aspirated Racing Runabout). These boats are McLeod 18 foot flatbottoms build here by Frank McLeod in the 80's and early 90's. The riding surface shall we call it is the same as a Biesemeyer but then changed the chines and front giving a bit of an air trap up front to help lift them as most were running small blocks back then. Cheers Kent. ps will send you some more photos when I get back from the races this weekend.

Hud,
it doesn't take much to see how people have reacted to your thread, point well proven my good man.
Having grown up there in NZ and spent many a day racing and watching it does my heart good to see this again.
"K's" and hydro's on the same bill, lots of action and plenty of boats, things went down hill for a long time but it looks like maybe they are on the up and up.
I'll be interested in links to any websites.

Thanks Hud for posting those pics of the boats from NZ on your wild v-drives thread. I thought I'd have a go at posting a reply on this thread and see if I can attatch another couple of photos for you guys to see. The pic's you've seen so far are the USA influenced hull that is common here. The other that is used here is the Aussie log or skiff. Here is a shot of our Top ProStock boat in NZ. (Prostock here in NZ is Inboard RR, 6 litre, single 850cfm carb, no roller cams) This boat "Cut Loose" is a 16ft childsplay boat built in Melbourne, Australia and run by Gary "Goose" Gregory. He is also our current National Unlimited Runabout Champion as he beat a couple of Big Block boats on points by being consistently in the places during the heats. Boat runs at 100mph in race trim.
Cool to see that we've got a response from an expat kiwi in Burbanite, I would be interested in some of his memories of racing here. As he said the K's and hydros on the same bill is often the case but currently only one K-Boat running here, as all the other V8 RR's run in the 2 restricted classes we have. The K-boat we have here many of you in the USA may know as it is a Revenge and was K-7 "Krazy Kanook" (excuse my spelling if this is wrong).
Most regattas have a King of the River or Lake type tace which sees the fastest qualifyers from all classes go head to head and we have anything and everything in these races sometimes. Hydros from 2 litre, threw to GP up against V8 inboard runabouts, Formula 1 tunnels and the odd quick outboard mono just to add to the mix at times makes for some pretty exciting racing.

Welcome Razors Edge,
thanks for sharing some of your exploits, as you can tell by Hud's efforts, we love pictures so keep em coming.
I raced (dare I say it here in the vdrive section) jets with the Streets, Cromies etc way back when. No matter what, we were on the water every waking moment doing something. You will no doubt remember the Knight family, Peter Snr and Jnr with their hydros, I caught up with Jnr a few years ago while I was in Australia for a race.
Lake Kaniere, the New Brighton Powerboat club races on the estuary they all are still fixed in my memory.
This is "The Boss" running through the rollers, he held the 1986 world record at 178 mph...

An old picture of Snr in "Road Runner", 1978 NZ Masport Cup winner...

"Gone Heavy", this one toured Canada, the US and Australia as well as competing at home in NZ...
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/61PKS_Gone_Heavy.jpg
Jnr in "The Godfather", multiple NZ Masport Cup winner, I believe it may still hold the Australian 6ltr record at 146 mph ...

Jnr took the boat to Canada a few years ago and won with it there as well...

A near miss whilst racing in Melbourne, Australia. Griffiths Cup winner '89, '90, and '91

Great photo's Burb', Mark Cromie is still at it, he ran his marathon jet boat in some circle racing the other weekend at Karapiro, went good too. He raced in Canada recently too at the world champs I believe.
The Knight family from ChCh love those Lauterbach boats, and for many years were the team to beat. You may be interested to know that they have just bought back The Godfather and once restored will run it as a 6 Litre, apparently with Pete jnr's boy Andy driving.
These Australasian kilo records are still held by these boats to this day.
Godfather 6000cc Hydro 141.77mph
Gone Heavy 7500cc Hydro 169.43mph
and The Boss WAS the World GP Kilo record holder at 177.176mph, this was broken in 1991, also by a kiwi team and now stands at 179.101mph.
Knights team also set in 1990 and still hold the World Womens Unlimited Water speed record at 168.76mph, they did this with CRC Latimer Lodge with Heather Spurle driving, an accomplished 4 wheel driver.
Tell me is the Billy B on here really the Billy B of K-11 Krazy Kolors Express fame. I have a T-Shirt here that now only gets worn in the workshop as its pretty well shagged, but I refuse to let the missus throw it out. Dad bought me the shirt late '80's early '90's on one of his trips up there and you guessed it, it is a Billy B's KRAZY KOLORS Express shirt listing Bob Bode jnr as the driver. The ol' man spoke very highly of this team that he had seen run at a regatta up there somewhere and had quite a few photos of the boat.
Wonder if he realises just how far his T-shirts travelled.
:) :)
As far as websites go down here, they are few and far between but our National Body has one set up and can be found at www.nzpba.com
I will dig threw my Favourites file and post some more sites on here later on.
ps The Crusaders got dealt to by 20 or so points this weekend by the Brumbies, Sorry to say Burb'

Never knew that the shirts made it that far. I might have a few still around but i'd have to look. That boat was sold to a guy up in Canada and he set the Can-Am record with it a couple of years ago. PM me your address and if I have any shirts left i'll send you a fresh one.
