View Full Version : Lavey's Catalina Invasion

WILD LAVEY
02-16-2004, 03:14 PM
Feb 22, LaveyCraft is having its first annual Catalina fun run. This should be a great run. There should be at least 10-12 Laveys and 3 to 4 85mph+ 2750's. I know some people doubt the performance of the 2750 hull. If you would like to see how they handle first hand, come out and play this Sunday.

I hope some of you salty dogs can come and run with us . It should be a great day for boating and drinks on the island is ALWAYS a good thing.
We are heading out of the Queen Mary launch ramp at 7:30 a.m., Sun., Feb. 22. I think Wild Lavey is launching out of Davies but we're gonna meet up for the group run. Either ramp is good. I look forward to meeting some of you from these boards.
See Ya!

Havasu was nice. Water is cool, but the sun was warm. Lots of boats on the lake & with only the north side @ Winsor open it was a little slow. The fireworks were the bomb. I needed a week not a week-end. It sucks towing the boat out and back, but then we get to play in the ocean also. I hope the storm thats comming is gone by Sunday. The swells are 5'- 6' now, could be a slow run.
Late, Mike

Please let my boat be finished, Please Please Please!!!!!!!
Shore Line Drive Ramp - Make sure you bring $8.00 cash to get in the gate. You take the 710 and head towards the queen mary and exit Queens way, turn left, go past the park and the road then swings to the left. follow to the ramp. You will see the launch ramp off to your left while you are still traveling on the freeway heading to the queens bay exit.
How many of you are going out? Why so early, hasnt it been pretty foggy still around 7:30?

Thanks Nick!
Yeah, I thought it was a little odd that Hot Boat didn't include the group aerial photo in this month's issue covering the Regatta. It was their photographer that took several shots from the helicopter, including this one. Even Dana Boats' regatta received an aerial group shot, and they only had four boats!
Oh well ... I guess it's their mag. They'll do what they want to.
PLEASE ... NO RAIN, NO RAIN, NO RAIN !!!

If it's a light rain, then yeah, we'll throttle up. If it's a heavy downpour, then we'll have to make a gametime decision to abort mission. But the rain should help us with the salt factor (bright side!). I'm still counting on the weather reports being wrong and having a beautiful California Sunday! (I hope!) :(

I'll be there, should be a good time. My buddy is planning on making it also - his was the 24' open at the LA show, and possibly 2 other friends will take thier boats also from O'side. This will be my 5th trip since December, and the 3rd with rain/threat of rain (makes it more interesting). :D
Start packing your rain gear - have a good run and we'll see ya at the Island.

Sorry, fellas ...
Had to abort the program for tomorrow due to heavy rain. Some wetness on the fiberglass is one thing, but a downpour on speakers, equipment and faces is a bit harsh.
However, it has been re-scheduled for the following Sunday. I hope that everyone that was aboard for tomorrow, can make it for next weekend. Maybe we can recruit even more boats for the run.

I have been told that if weather cooperates the Catalina Run will be this Sunday. Leaving the Queen Mary launch ramp at 7:30am.
It looks like most who planed on going last weekend will make it this weekend. I plan on going with the rest of you leaving from the Queen Mary instead of my usual Oceanside trip.

Looking to meet some new boaters again this year!!!

SCOPE,
Thanks. Have run in the last three of your Long Beach Poker Runs with the other Laveys and it is by far, the most extreme P.R. there is. It's pretty hairy running along side you big boyz in your 38'+ boats in the ocean.
BTW, when is the run this year? I heard it was moved to a Saturday. True? And when is Bob's Kick-off party? We didn't go last year because of the rain. It looked like quite a bash!!!

Great!!! Lot's of fun huh? HEY!!! Not everyone in the club has 38'+ boats!! The 2003 club president (Jim Dunphy) has a 29 foot Scarb, and this year's pres had one too, but got a new 38 at last year's poker run.
Check out our schedule. Lots of fun activities if you like boating! The Kick-Off party is different this year and is at Joe's Garage. Details will be coming up soon. If you were at the poker run last year, you might remember that is was all videoed in HD. Well....the premire of the video will be at the kickoff party in HDTV!!! Bob's party was off the hook last year. You should have come out in the rain. It was awesome.
Hope to see you soon.....

There are three guys on the board of directors of SCOPE this year (myself included) with single engine boats that are less than 30' long.... There are a lot of guys with 38's, but there are also a lot of under 30' boats out there.
Hopefully you can make it to some of the events besides the poker run and check it out... There is a SCOPE Catalina run on Sat March 13...

I know there were some smaller boats out there. Hell, we brought four of the few under 30'. But it's a blast just to be beside the big toys and aspire to "grow up" someday. :)
I usually boat in Havasu where a 2750 is on the larger side of the scale (or used to be). But running along side the Big Dogs definitely puts "size" into perspective.
I think it's called "HORSEPOWER ENVY!!!" :D
SCOPE, thanks for the pic. Great shot !!! Does that mean that the party is on Friday nite or after the run??? Anything planned for Sunday? Also received the SCOPE e-mail. You guys are running on Sat. while we're going on Sunday. Would've been nice to meet up.
