I got this e-mail from a freind of mine today. I really needed it. What a funny mother f#$%er.
"I just figured out something truly amazing! (because I have absolutely nothing better to do with my time (ha ha)
There where some ants on my night stand invading grape jelly I had not cleaned up. I sat there and watched the ants for a few minutes and was amazed at how they were able to find the jelly on top of my night stand.
Then it got me to thinking. An ant is about a 1/4 inch tall, which is about 1100 times smaller than an average person (trust me on that one). In order for an ant to get to the point it was on my night stand a few things had to happen.
An ant would have to somehow sense or smell that there was some jelly in a certain radius of where it was. Most ants live outside which is about 8 feet from my night stand. I figured out that an ant mile is approx. 1 ft. Now it is amazing that an ant can smell jelly eight miles away or more. What is even more amazing is that it is storming outside.
Picture this; your outside with water drops the size of elephants falling on your head your getting blown around by 3500 mph winds (you “an ant” only weighs 3 milligrams) so your holding on for your life. In the distance through a half a mile thick wall and 8 miles away on top of a 12,000 foot cliff you smell jelly in the storm. You are able to grab a couple of buddies and burrow through a mile of earth and come up in a building at exactly the right location. You cross eight miles of dense forested trees that are about 16-18 ft. tall (your carpet) by walking on top of the trees. You then come to a 12,000 ft sheer cliff and scale it to eat some jelly.
But you donÂ’t stop there. An ant can carry 10-50 times its weight or letÂ’s say about 700lbs. You load 700lbs. of jelly on your back and climb head first down a 12,000 foot cliff for the journey home!
I think we should somehow harness ant power or at least genetically enhance them to turn turbines in a power plant, what do you think? "
