I have a 454 8:1 Ray Jay turbo motor in my Subzilla running 5psi of boost. When I bought the truck I was told to run 92 or better in it but with it getting 10mpg and the cost of gas and the fact that it is 8:1 and I hardly ever get into boost. Can I run 89?

I wouldn't risk it myself.

I was afraid of that:frown: What is the risk, melt down? One more thing I do not have a choke and it is still kinda cold here I do not even drive this at all in the winter but the few times I have started it just to warm it up it will pop a few times wont that hurt the turbo if it is excessive?

running too low of a octane fuel will cause detonation. Detnation is not good and if it continues you may find your self with a hole mess of problems.

Switching to the low octane fuel itself won't cause a problem at all. It's the boost that you may pump into it that will cause the problem. If you want to run low octane take apart the wastegate, install a spacer in the cap, and remove the spring so that the valve is open all the time. It'll never build boost.

Is that a R V brand turbo kit? I have installed many of those, and with a Holley carb. they work great. My own 1979 454 Crew has had one (2 motors) on it for over 475K miles. Yep! almost 500K. I run a spread bore Holley and water inject. Hobbs switch, 1 1/2 lbs, .015" "jet", solinoid to stop vacuum from sucking water into motor. If you need carb. info, just ask.
