Some of these guys claim straight-a-way speeds nearing 220!
Imagine how fast they would be without all of thier restrictions!
Hey Jim Anderson king126, are you sending someone up to tape this?

Am I missing something here? 42-year old record at 198 mph in the Kilo Pass?
Best quarter-mile times for a boat today are now under 5.0@220mph. This is what I think is going on:
The Kilometer Run is an obscure record that is not normally used as a measure of speed/distance. This is why it has stood for forty two years.
Seems the race team has found a record that is so outdated by way of lack of interest, they can use it as a major publicity stunt and exit their final seanson with a HUGE bang. They will be able to say something like, "Villwock and the Miss Budwiser boat not only placed a new record, they shattered the old record by an astonishing 48 mph!"
Its' an ingenious idea, whoever thought it up for the final season. It will sell a lot of beer for sure.
And to end up in the Afterbay? I bet they seached high and low to find this locally-only-known stretch of shallow, calm-calm water, where by the way, they will beat the record with their first pass and continue to test and tune and then repeatedly break their own record.
I AM THERE FOR SURE.
If anybody knows something that I don't (like maybe I'm way off base with my conjecture), then I'm all ears.

A kilo run isn't obscure in the relm of APBA. There are record attemps all the time in the other classes. I'm not sure why the Unlimited record has stood for so long.
I'd like to see a BFH make an attempt at a kilo = driftwood.

Kilo trials are the only fair and true way to measure a boats outright speed (or flying miles if you prefer) especially for speed records of circle boats or anything bigger.
1/4 mile drags with a standing start, altho' awesome aren't a way to measure top speed as I'm sure most boats are still accelerating as they go threw the finish lights, and haven't yet hit top speed.
At the risk of being accused of repeating myself here, I posted the following on the Sandbar and have had no response, maybe someone here will know.
What is the deal here with these records.
Didn't Russ Wicks set a new record in June 2000 at 205.494mph. Driving Ken Muskatels "Miss FreeI"
The info I've seen says Wicks broke the record of 200.419mph set in '62 by Roy Duby in the "Miss U.S.1".(differs here also 198.17mph).
Nothing on the APBA or UIM websites makes any sense regarding these records. Are these two different records that these guys are chasing?
According to Wicks website both APBA and UIM ratified his record, and the boat was a legal Unlimited class Hydroplane. He calls it a prop driven record as opposed to Unlimited hydro record, is this the difference?
But as a legit Unlimited wouldn't this also stand as the class record? or do "Miss Bud" and APBA etc not recognise this run? If not why not? Can anyone shed any light on this.
Anyway it will be an awesome sight I'm sure and good publicity for the sponsors and fast boats alike especially once the brewery publicity machines get rollin', and I hope it all goes good!

LakesOnly,
My buddy and I are planning on heading out there tommorow, be cool to meet some other board members. Not going to have the suburban like I said in the previous post cause I got a new set of heads for it and well.... Im goin to the lake instead of throwing them on.
Are they going to be allowing other boats on the lake? I think we might cruise the parking lot and the beach and meet some people but then we were thinking of taking the girls over to the levee and sitting there that way we can watch everything from the shore and still get a little faded and wet.

Also a capsule boat and a couple of mystery boats under boat covers, no other boats allowed on the water, the lake is closed...Hud I hope get a chance to get up here and get some pics.

Congrats to the Miss Bud team, 220mph is mighty fast threw a kilometer.
Who knows about the SS400 boat with a capsule?
Does anyone know who runs it? Is it brand new?
Check out that turning fin hanging off the side! And as for the length of the cav plate with two sets of turnbuckles. I've never seen anything quite like that either. I have thought about turn fins on the side of a flattie before, just never seen it done.
Hud you say it ran hard, does it do everything right while turning and hook up well?
I would love to know more about it, anyone here know anything about it

Jerry, I was out of the pits by the time they ran, so I don't know.

Hud

R.E., they didn't turn the boat @ speed. They just ran straight down, then turned around slow & straight back for the backup run.

They were puttin a new engine in the Capsule boat when I was there. The U-1 had some trouble, I couldn't get a straight answer out of them maybe someone knows but from what I heard something happened with the prop and it just tore the hull apart and took a chunk out of the starboard wing.
What a cool boat too.

SS400 was Dave Villwocks former world record setting 1980 something Jones that swept the SK, SS, and PC classes in 1984 at Floridas St Petes Regatta. It was currently driven by Kelly Stocklin who also drives an Unlimited Light hydro. This boat crashed violently in its debut race when it hooked on the new outrigger style fin, borrowed from a hydro design, and the driver barely escaped when they could not open the capsule while being upside down! I wasnt there but that is the rumor. jErK

I stand corrected, The SS400 boat is Kelly Stocklins and only has Villwocks former SS #. Villwocks boat is supposedly still in his posession and has not had a oxygen tent conversion! I am told that the fella in the Orange jacket is Paul Casura who campaigned the SK orange Jones in the 80s. Thanks Sked and Boatguy, now I dont look so jErKish. Anyone know what they ran for speed? I know Kelly is on the committee helping form the new Wa. state legislature law required race boat registration! We now must register and license all race boats over a certain length or the race is stopped! That's all I know Goodbye........:)

Thanks HUD for the pics and info. I was curious...Was the 220 pass on the first run? Was a back up run required under this format? If so, did she make a back up run before she broke? Wish I could have seen it.

Whats up posse leader?
I'm sure these guys were playin with different things and they possibly fell victim to some mechanical difficulties.
One things for sure... those little Jones boats are definately fast, and that one looks aero-dynamic!:)
