My friend has a 28' Sunsation and would like to know what kind of speeds people are running on GPS only! Please give some motor information with your speed. He has a 502 efi with imco headers, MDS ignition and a lab finished 24 prop. top speed with gps on his boat is 62.4 mph. Thanks

62.4?? That really sounds like the boat is under speed for some reason. I've been shopping the 28 for some time now and the slowest I've seen it clocked was 65.3mph with the (502mag-mpi and 4850rpm) in the latest edition of PB mag. Even that sounds like the prop is a dog looking at those rpm. ***boat mag a number of months ago clocked 68.4 radar with a 454mag. They come stock with a 24P Bravo-1 so it's surprising he's performing so poorly with a lab 24P. Is he packing a lot of junk in the cuddy and what rpm is he getting? What year is the boat and where does he put in? Is there altitude considerations?
As a reference point my buddy took delivery of a Donzi 26ZX with a 496HO and he got 64mph (Garmin-12 handheld) despite weighing in at around 5300lbs. That was with a stock 24P Bravo that was a dog and only giving him 4700rpm (he's negotiating another prop from Donzi). Has he tried contacting David Hare at Sunsation to quiz him on what he should be expecting performance wise?....

I'm shopping the 32. The dealer told me it does 73 with a single 500.???????
I told him I wanted to ride it anyway so I'll let ya know how it turned out.
That speed sounds low for a 28.

28Heat,
I know the boat your referring to and that boat is loaded with everything and the kitchen sink. I know he had RPM and prop issues and even had Bob Teague take the boat out and I talked with Bob and he did get 64 out of the boat which is very good considering the options that are on the boat. PLeae feel freeto call me direct if you have any questions or concerns you would like to discuss or if you would like an information package and video sent.

I have a 2001 28'8" Sunsation with a 496HO.
I run primarly on lake Mead and with 3 people, about 75 gallons of gas and all the junk that my wife has stuffed in every compartment I run 64 on a Garmin handheld.
Talk to Dave at Sunsation he is a great guy. I called him all the time while my boat was under construction. PS I ran 62 on gps with 6 fat guys ,110 gallons of gas and a large cooler with enough beer for the day.

2002 288 with 496HO has got me 68.9 on the Garmin-12 handheld, half bag of gas, dead wind, 76 degrees, and just me with a stock Bravo-1 4 blade. The only gizmo's i have installed are electric bolsters and silent choice. Everything else is stock... http://free.***boat.net/ubb/cool.gif http://hrpa.homestead.com/homepage.html

Hey Guys I know this is off the thread, but there is a guy from Atlanta asking about Bajas and if anyone knows any good East Coast builders in the Hot Boats Hot Spots Forum. His topic is "All Comments Welcome", and his screen name is Eric1969. If you guys have any input on the questions he has posed could you go and post there. I don't think he asked the right crowd. Any help is appreciated, LOL.

Reckless, Is your prop a 24 pitch? I am wondering why you are running a few miles and hour faster than me...
Thanks.

My 1997 288 Sunsation ran 64mph on gps with a stock 454 Mag(carb)
I also have a 2001 32' Dominator with a single HP500EFI for sale that runs 79.6mph, see pictures at http:/www.sunsationracing.50megs.com/photo.html (http://http:/www.sunsationracing.50megs.com/photo.html)

First of all, yes I've got a 24P stock Bravo prop that came with it. Secondly, Monday of last week (08 Oct) with same configuration (496HO, 1/2 bag, just me) I tagged 69.2 on the Garmin-12 handheld. The difference was it was a little cooler, 60 ambient with about 66-67 degree water. OBTW, this is salt water at sea level. It's more dense and gives the prop a better bite...

Salt water is more bouyant, If you usually boat in fresh water then move to salt water with the same set up you will see more engine RPM's.
