What is everyone paying for insurance? What is high and what is reasonable? For a 650 hp tunnel, deck boats don't apply! Lay-up?

NorCalCat,
I payed $1580 for a 26' Cat. It's only pushing stock 496 power. I have progressive and for some reason they haven't dropped me like they have dropped other cat owners. Knock on wood! My twin bro and I are both on the policy, we are 28, no tickets or accidents. I think I got a discount for being a teacher. The boat is only reaching 60-62 on a good day, with the two of us, an ounce of gas, empty stomachs, and no extra cargo. I'm going to shop around since my policy is up at the end of April.

NorCalCat,
Have you checked some of the old Insurance for Tunnels threads. I spent hours going through them getting all the numbers down for the agents who cover cats and wrote down the prices that people were quoted. I'm preparing for the calls I have to make when I change my insurance before the end of April. It was more work then buying the damn boat. I have a list of names of the agents that people have mentioned in the threads and can send them to you when I get home if you don't already have them.
Also, I emailed Dano last week sometime with the email address you sent. I haven't heard from him yet, I figured he just hasn't got around to checking it yet or he's just busy.

Ya, I know he has been sick. I'll mention it to him tomorrow. I was quoted $2600 yr, no lay-up, so I think that is the best I will find, you know with 3 dui's (just kidding, I have a clean record)
Sandbar you around tomorrow, I will be at the new shop around 9:00 am.

RUCAV, I believe your boat is a V bottom. Cats are a different animal when it comes to Ins. Ace wont insure me because of an accident I had with $900 damage. It looks like I will be with Markel @ $6,200 with layup. I have to carry lots of liability, but it wasn't much cheaper for the 300,000 policy. It's gotta get better.

As I was laughing my ass off and hanging the phone up to call I think his name was Bob Luelen from world wide marine, same coverage 3900$. He was great, very smart, and knew a thing or two about the marine industry. If you need his # let me know.

I think I have received a quote from everyone and their mother by now. Bling, you are right, Bob Luelen from world wide marine is good.I got a better quote form Mike Mitchelle from Alternative Ins. He quoted me $2900 no layup $300k liab, $1100 deduct. Not bad... Devin Wozencraft from Farmers is also good. He got me the same but double the deduct.
If anyone wants #'s PM me.:)

Question--this "layup" term. Does that mean its a month which your boat is not covered and you can't use it?

You are covered, however, you can not use it. If you are towing to another location, get tuned up, there is a fire, whatever, you are still covered in full. If you use the boat, and you do not notify your carrier then you are not covered. Usually it is about $150-$200 per month if you are going to use it durriung the layup. Just call them before.

Hey all,
Don't forget you can also call Buzz or Rodney at PMA Insurance here in Ft Lauderdale, FL. We do fast cats and fast v-hulls as long as your pretty good on the MVR report and have the prior fast boat ownership and/or fast boat experience required by my Underwriters. I've got two markets for cats and even more for v-hulls. $50,000.00 & up on the boat values.
Call or e-mail me with any questions.
