Just wondering how hot your Exhaust Gas Temp can get before you start having problems? Im running right at 1200 degrees most of the time and at WOT it starts to get up to 1300. I would like to go a little leaner cause im getting a black transom. Also could be getting black transom cause its running rich at idle. Anywone running hotter exhaust them me?? Thanks

Typically run around 1500. The hemi is running 1450 at 11.5:1 A/F. I try to get the A/F's somewhere around 12.5:1 when not running pump gas. Those engines end up around 1600. These are turbo numbers so your blower should have lower EGT's by 100-200. Your transome might just be black from part throttle operation. It's usually really hard to get perfect A/F ratios everywhere with carbs.

What temp do pistons melt at? I run 1400 @ wot and my cruse temp is 1300. I have over the top headers so I don't get that black stuff, and my boat is black. I have the other problem, water spots.

I think you start having a problem with melt down around 1600 to 1650. But im trying to find out what everybody else runs around. Just want to have the best safe zone as possible. Thanks for the info!!

Exhaust gas temperature can be a tricky critter. A pyrometer reads exhaust temperature but can also read a high temperature due to the fuel burning in the exhaust pipe. Be sure to look at spark plugs also before determining direction. Some of this can also be camshaft related. I have seen 2500 degrees in my blown alcohol motor and it was dead fat. As far as temps I like 1400 for gas and 1200 for alcohol.
