My buddy just took delivery of his 2003 26 Daytona. He has a 1000HP Blown 540 in it. We need advise on the best prop for this set up. 1.50 gears with a B-max drive. The boat needs more low end bit. He is running a 34 Bravo 1 four blade on it now. I think he needs a five blade to get out of the whole better. Anyone???????

I am running 1.36 gears with 30" bravo 1. I have a 34 but prop keeps blowing out trying to come on plane. What kind of blower is he using? What is his x dimension?

Why did he go with 1.50 gears when he has that much H.P. I run a 30 with 1.25 ratio.

Watch out for the BMax drives. A guy I know is having problems with his and he is only running 900 hp each.

Sounds like he needs a bigger diameter prop. Not sure if 5 blade will do it. Just invested in a 5 blade and it has the same problem if not worse as my 4 blade did getting on plane. Found a pair of "big" props (17" diameter)and gave the RH a try. Way too big. Got right on plane but couldn't spin it beyond 3500 rpm. I'm putting out 900+ ft-lbs at that rpm. 65 mph made it only 5% slip though. Cut it down to 16" and it lets me rev now. Still has very low slip numbers as well. I think a B-max just has a standard lower so you can only go to 16" diameter. Generally the bigger the pitch the smaller diameter so you'll be hard pressed to find a large diameter 34. I run a #4 speedmaster with 1.4 gears and have been hard pressed to find round eared props. Cleavers lift the stern too much for my little 23' tunnel so had to resort to custom props.

How high is your drive? My gimble ring is 2 1/4" below the rub rail with standard bravo XY drive.

I too am surprised about the gear ratio. Seems like this is an application for the 1.36 gear ratio which is what I had on my 30' Eagle.
With the ponies coming out of that motor, what RPM is being turned on top? I don't know if you have seen this but perhaps it will help in figuring the right prop to get more out of the hole power. Prop Calculator (http://www.rbbi.com/folders/prop/propcalc.htm)

Who !!! sold you on that ratio---Way wrong for that boat with 1000 hp should be 1.25 or no more than 1.36.I have a 2003 datona 26 ,imco 4x4 drive at 1.25 the center of the propshaft is even with the lowest part of the sponson,it pops on plane at 2700rpm and runs 137.1 mph at 6500 rpm with a 32 lab merc 4 blade,my 30 can run 125 at 6000 rpm. Change the ratio and you will be much happyer. have found no bad habits yet with the setup im running .Will be going for 145 mph at Havasu in April of 04 at Tthe Heatwave. ROCKIT MAN
