So the DeWalt DW874 is discontinued. Now this DW871 is a major POS. I need a saw ASAP. Anyone gotta a link or know of a heavy use saw. Please help and thanks in advance.

I'm not a big fan of DeWalt tools. I have 2 DeWalts for wood and neither of them would be my first choice. (Customers gave them to me at prices too low to refuse.) I have a Milwaukie cut off saw for metal that has given me good service so far but I don't do enough metal work to have really tested it. I'm interested in what you finally purchase and why. Good luck

we are talking metal and not wood right? If so I think all those small chop saws are a POS for a shop. Might be ok for field use. The last shop I worked at would burn up 10 a year no matter what brand.
Step up the next size with a belt drive. You'll get much better bearings and more oats.
I'll be getting a cold saw next. I'm done with abrasive wheel chop saws.

All the 14" saws are made in China now and for industrial use are junk. Makita's used to be USA but they didn't brag about it.

you will spend that on junk ones over the years and still have a pos.
Buck up now and be still happy 20 years later. I didn't have a brand because the one I used was so old the brand name was long gone. Still cut square. I just hate the mess they make.

I just can`t spend that on a chop saw for mild steel and tubing. My ass is aching thinking about that saw. I also need a band saw. I won`t spend 2500 on that either. What ya got for me band saw wise. Metal of course.

Had one of those too. Blades would last if you used them just right. well our guys would smoke one in less then a day. At 75 bucks a blade they parked the saw.
They are bad azz saws. You can cut a chunk of 2" solid round 304 stainless and pick it up with your bare hand right away.
Things I liked about it.
Cuts fast
No burrs
easy to moave around
Part is cold to the touch
No dust and mess from abravise blades but it does sling chips big time.
Things I didn't like
If you don't have the touch and our guys didn't the blades don't last.
Still has the pos motor and same pos style frame as their other saws. But that might not be that big of a deal because the blades are balanced so much better.

Good Job Man You Will Be Very Happy With Ur Saw,i Also Have The Eight Inch Milwaukee Metal Saw ,and Everyone That Sees It Runs The Other Way Thinking I'm Just Using A Regular Skillsaw Blade And Then Watches The Thing Cut Like It's A Tool From Outer Space.
Alot Of People Hav'nt Even Heard Of The Dry Cut Saws But Once You Use One Cutting Metal Is A Joke.the Biggest Trick In Making The Blades Last Is Start The Blade Out Gently And It Will Cut And Last A Very Very Long Time.

This is too funny...I use a Ryobi 18V (that's right...cordless) 8 1/4" chop saw for all my aluminum up to 3X3 angle, and have cut 2X3 solid on it. It's cut every rail piece and bracket on my boat, and other projects, as well, for over 2 yrs. Talk about "no body believing it"...LOL! :D

yeah you can cut aluminum and some sheetmetal with a skillsaw but this will do 24 ga. stainless up to 3/4" steel plate clean with real worries about kickback.

yeah you can cut aluminum and some sheetmetal with a skillsaw but this will do 24 ga. stainless up to 3/4" steel plate clean with real worries about kickback.Oh, I know, I was just heving fun. I never thought that little toy saw would last one cut, but it just continues to amaze me. When I was in the machine shop, no one could figure out a good way to cut 3" alum plate. I came to work the next day with a skill saw and a can of WD40 and you should have seen the look on their faces! By the end of the day I had convinced the shop foreman, and he ordered a Milwaukee 8" wormdrive. I think fifteen years later, they still use the same saw.
I had a fab shop for a while and we built Cobras from the ground up. I had to fab the frames and everything else, and my favorite 2 tools were my cold saw and my 20" Apex. The 3X4 steel tubing didn't stand a chance. :D

That Milwaukee cold saw kicks ass. 1/4 angle today like paper. That blade does it for sure.
