You can tow it but you won't like your milage. I have a '01 SuperCrew, 4X4, with the 5.4 and tow my Carrera 257. Weight of boat and trailer are around 6500 lbs. It pulls great on the flats and down hills but struggles going up steep hills. I have the 3.55 gears and would be much better off with a lower gear ratio. I average about 8-10 mpg towing the boat. I wish I had bought the F250 with the Power Stroke.

Gas mileage will take a hit, but more importantly, so will stopping distances. Leave plenty of room between you and who you're following. Nothing worse than that 'boat pushing you down the road' feeling. :eek!:
Big truck=Big Brakes.

I have the 25 Tremor and my truck actually stops very very well with the boat in tow. Frenchie anti up for dual axle disc brakes. They are the shit!

I pulled a 25' Eliminator with a 4.6 Ford and a 5.3 Chevy. No problems with either, but the CHevy pulled it way better.

When I do tow the boat long distances I have to barrow my grandparent’s Suburban. Lowered 1500 2wd 350 fuel injected w/ 4.10 limited slip rear end. I don’t know what gives, but it gets better mileage towing the 27’er than I get in my car driving down the freeway.

I have a 2002 4x4 Supercrew with the 5.4...4.56 Gears, Superchipped, Exhaust, Intake, 35"'s, 6 ".......Pull a 26' Cat and it pulls great. I pull up Cheriaco at 65-70, turning around 3K RPM's....it gets between 8-10 towing... Actually around town with gears, it hauls ass.
I have a thing for the diesels and the better gas milage...I will probably be get rid of the F150 and a Diesel soon.

Wow After hearing all your stories
I MUST HAVE HAD A LEMON.
The 02 piece of shit I had, couldnt tow a gardeners trailer empty.
I got 7 miles to a gallon towing a 3200 pound boat and was lucky if I made it 150 miles on a full tank. I would be lucky if I could hit 60 mph up the cajon pass. Got rid of the piece of shit and bought a real truck.
Now, I and the wife forget the boat is back there.

I want a 'new' Ford 250 SuperDuty 4x4 CrewCab Diesel Truck!
I don't need everyone's $.02 on the issue since i cannot afford one. I'm not being trendy I've wanted one ever since ford changed the body style in '98/'99 :(

There's no way your getting 17-18 mpg towing a 21ft. boat with your Ford. I have 2 wheel drive Super Crew with a 5.4 and I'm lucky to get 10 mpg towing. The F-150 with the 5.4 is lucky to get 17-18 mpg not towing on the highway.
Frenchie,
Your truck won't have any trouble towing your boat. My dad used to have an F-150 extra cab with a 5.4 and he towed his 26ft. Sleekcraft with it with no problems. It weigh's about 6000lbs. I tow my Ultra with no problems.

Im looking to get the f150 supercrew with the 5.4. it would pull a 28 deckboat fine right( boat 4200, trailer 1500)? and would 2wd or 4wd make a difference?

It will pull a 28'; just the gas milage will be the issue. I used to pull my dad's 28' Sleek with no prob. I would get 4x4 for lauching a heavy boat that size.

Well then what mod made the most difference on your fuel mileage. I have the air intake system and an exhaust system and it did not have effect on my fuel mileage. I know my boat is heavier than yours but I've never heard anyone getting that kind of mileage out of a F-150 with a 5.4.

I have the K&N FIPK2 System and a Sebring exhaust and no cats, Those two made the big difference, and I have a jet throtte body spacer, it doesnt whittle like the poweraid ones, and the Hyper tech chip helped alot too....

It helps alot too if you broke your vehicle in correctly, and dont hammer on it all the time, a buddy of mine didnt break it in and just wiends it out every chance he gets and his milage is horriable and he always has probs with it...Even in my motorhome 27' with a v10 I get between 9 to 12 towing the boat out to havasu.

Disregard your gas mileage towing. Just remember you have to fill what you are towing. Ouch!

Ya thats another thing I always bring my boat home with no or almost no gas left in it..and I always leave really early or late at night so I dont have to deal with the extreme temps bringing down my trucks performance
