My crew chief called me today and ask me to help idenitfiy this boat he has in his back yard. I've been around V-Drives since the '60s and I've never seen anything like this.

Here's a shot from the rear.

Here's the engine. The mag says "Grant" on top. The firing order is "18736542", I'm guessing Olds by the exhaust patern. It is timed by a hole in the bell housing that is part of the block.

My guess would be a early 60s Howard. Has the same lines as Oldrigger's Howard that he just sold. That exhaust is definitly 50s:yuk: and ya gotta love the whitewalls :D The ignition is most likely a Grant "Flamethrower"

Looks like a 62-63 Spico to me. I used to own one and it looks VERY similar. That boat IS nostalgic in about every way. 389 Pontiac was the popular set-up then along with those exhausts. Dont think that flame arrestor was around back then.

Thanks guys... I'll see if he wants to sell it. He has clear title on the boat and trailer, but the boat hasn't been register since 1980. The guy says it over heats since he took the wet manifolds off and put the zoomies on. Judging by the way he plumbed it I can see why. Check out the ski tow.

He has the water exits out of the bottom of the engine. The block drains.

Brodie, aren't you like Oxbig's cousin or something? For a long time now I have been admiring his bike from afar. Maybe we could work out some sort of 3 way trade, if he throws in the helmet that could really seal the deal:cool: Call me, SB

That is NOT a PONTIAC engine in that deal...
Pontiac valve covers have two (2) bolt holes on top and two (2) bolt holes on the bottom...
The one pictured has two (2) on top and THREE (3) on the bottom...
The boat looks very SANGERish to me... (kinda HOWARDish as well)

"SPCTN" Special Contruction. A lot of Boats in California were registered like that, especially when you bought a bare hull and did the installation several years later.

To all those PMing me about this boat, I am in Washington DC on business, but will be back in SoCal Friday night. I will see if he wants to sell this and I will hook you up. I think he kind of inherited it from someone in a trade. He was just asking me about the overheating problem, he is not normally a boat person.

Turns out the boat is a 1965 Kalawain. Guy does not want to sell it, but I'm going over today to try to talk him out of it. He may be interested in a trade. I think he just wants to have a boat to play with for the summer. He tends to be kind of hard on his toys, so I would hate to see him break something irreplaceable. We'll see.
