Anyone have any experience or info on Stern Power outdrives? Are they still in business? Parts available? I'll post a pick of the unit in question later. I'm told it's a model 106 or 107.
Thanks.

I run the 'Stern Powr' MX-07 drives on my 28 Cigarette. Drives are bulletproof! If you do happen to find that bullet to break it - good luck on finding parts.
Stern powr went out of business on Dec '02. Marysville marine out of Marysville, MI. did still have some parts last spring and you might try www.jtmperformancemarine.com.

Thanks!
I've had several mechanics locally (Dallas) come over to the boat and look at the drive because they've never seen one like it before.
I just called JTM Marine and the guy told me that Stern Power has been in and out of business several times over the years. He has plenty of parts both new and used. I think they are back in business at the current time. :D

So how reliable are these drives. What HP & torque are they capable of of taking.
If they are bitchen drives why hasnt they caught on in the west coast where big HP breaks bravo-1 drives?

My model 105 is supposedly rated for 650 hp. I'm currently putting 450 to it.
They guy at JTM told me that this boat:
http://www.jtmperformancemarine.com/boat1.htm
is pushing over 1200 hp with no problem.

Does the Stern Power drive use a seperate tranny?

Yes.
I've got a Borg Warner tranny. Some of the older ones did not.
I have been hunting these guys all over the net and finally caught up with them. Stern Power is now owned by American Propulsion Systems, located in Maine. They are manufacturing new drives and supporting older ones as well. Not sure what their production schedule is for new drives. They apparently dissolved their dealer network when the company sold last time. If anyone wants the contact info I'll post it (don't have it with me right now).
