just ran a vortech (blow thrue) HO 454 crate
motor today on the dyno for CAR CRAFT mag.Had a 825cfm mighty DEMON and a ys7 ? vortech super charger. with a couple of mods (victor jr.)
and a little bigger cam, that thing made 779 HP. and 710 ft.lbs of torque on 91 oct. it was cool.sold me on vortech over roots style
for low oct. drivers.!!!

Steve,
Thanks for sharing the info with us. If you don't mind me asking a couple of questions, what is was the total timing and amount of boost to get those numbers?
Thanks,
Chris

Do you know what it cost for the whole package?

I have (2) complete systems - used with all upgraded injectors, intercoolers, fuel pumps etc. and repmapped ECM for 3500 each or 6k for the pair plus shipping.

the HO cost about $4,500.00 less dist. and carb. The guys from vortech tell me the cost of there package is about $2,800.00.The DEMON carb should be in the range of $600.00.
and we ran a HEI dist. You can buy that from MSD for about 200.00. After looking at the whole package a guy can do this for approx $8,500, less marine hardware. 750 hp. is on track with no cam change,.........I forgot to reset the timing from 38 to 34 after we installed the supercharger, the first pull
(being causious)was only to 5500 and at 38 deg. of timing and there where no signs of detonation. Wanting to be sure we were on the safe side I then backed the timing off to 34 and added approx five percent more fuel. It lost 10 hp at 5500, a drop to 738, from 748, But a safe combo that made 779 hp at 6000. The cool thing about a centrifugal
super charger over a roots ( for low oct. applications) is that it acts a lot like a turbo. Not to much boost at low rpm but keeps building. In a normally aspirated state the HO made peak torque at 3800,but to my surprise, the peak torque mouved up to 5800.
The reason being the boost started at 2.5 at 3500 rpm and continued to rise to 6.5 at 5500rpm,( more boost more torque,)The max hp we achieved was at 6000 rpm, limited by hyd.lifters ( we got valve float at 6100).
If we can run this "crate" motor again,I'll put a smaller pully on the blower,, and make 800hp at 5600rpm at approx 7.5 lbs of boost.
Now that would make a motor MURCURY would cry
about, price wise that is....
