Badass: I have the 500EFI in a Ultra 247(pic under blower moter forum). I am going to put a blower on just not sure if it will be Whipple or Vortech. They both now have complete systems. I think a 496HO would be better and cheaper with a supercharger. You would have to upgrade your drive from the Bravo 1 though. 200lbs lighter and save that extra 10k. Check out the last 2 issues of ***boat. They have been writing about this subject. Good luck, Jeff

thanks, all already having the xr drive being put in, dont want problems later on .is it better with the 496 ho because of cost?how much more is it going to cost for whipple and what is horsepower with hp500 with whipple.the boat is going to cost me $16.000 upgrade from 496 mag.this is what i get with upgrade.hp500efi vortec supercharger, cmi exhaust, duel ram external steering,xr drive, steel braided lines, sea stainer, billet pollished pullys.im going to have exhaust and boost gauges installed to for alittle extra.what do you think?

The 496 will get you about 200lbs lighter and the cost of the supercharger less. Its a push. Actually its a gain cuz you get on plane faster and such. Thoughhhh, with HP500EFI you get the XR drive, all the good parts, polished pullies and such and with the Vortech system you will be @650 ponies. This is exactly what I am looking at doing to my boat. I might add the IMCO 12" neutral setback for the drive, a shower, and some guages just like you talked about. To be honest, if you have the coin, go with the HP500. What kind of sled will it be anyways?? Good Luck, Jeff

30ft with only one drive...you need to go with twin blown 496's. Whats another 20K? Do it right the first time. You will be glad you did..

20k not much more, but i have other interest than boats,im restoring a 1948 chevy right now, chopping the top 6",shaving door handles,502 big block motor, jag rear end, house of colors paint job.And air bag suspension on my 1938 chevy, remolding backyard,7 day cruise in 2 months, and a trip to jamaica in sept.So as you can see im trying to get the most for my buck,If i can reach high 70 mph thats good enough for me right now. In three years when i sell the boat ,2000 hp boat here i come.Maybe a 36 footer.

Chevy, if it's going to be primarily a lake boat I would stay with the single. Better gas, don't need the assurance of twins, etc.It is a toss up which way to go, 500HP or 496 HO. I would probably go with the HO as it is the future. I am planning on putting a whipple on mine (600 hp, 509), I think it is more efficientand I will either go the IMCO extreme drive or a modified XR. Good luck, look forward to seeing you at Havasu. The 1938 Chev sounds awesome. Cliff

Just finished testing on a 27 Lavey Tunnel.
500 HP EFI. Stock speed 78.4. Vortech Supercharger package 94.4 MPH. Needed more prop. Hit the rev limit. 5400. I feel with a larger prop 96 or 97 mph could be reached.
Bob Endress has all specs on this package.

i dont know i dont see the point.if your going for 600 to 650 ponies why put a supercharger on it. i know these blower guys got these new systems working killer but why put the added stress on the motor only to make that kind of power.

boatnam2.i was told that the blowers put more stress on engine than superchargers.ive been talking to bob at vortec he said that he has been working with mercruiser for along time and that they have these superchargers dialed in really good now.no fuel problems.ive been hearing that the blower motors are harder to dial in getting fuel problems fixed.

these grafics are going to be really crazy i think along with colors.candy colors with fades,i wish i knew how to post pictures, so i can post pictures that louie has done so far.they look badass total differant than any boat ive seen except for some skaters and outerlimits boats that ive seen with 15k to 30k paint jobs.so you will see this boat a the lakes really soon.

im sorry bas i should of said blower, supercharger, turbo what ever if your going to only be looking for 600 to 650 ponies why put on a blower of any sort.any type of charger not matter how dialed in, if your running big boost you have to be careful.

Boatnam2,right now i dont want to spend the extra 8k to have teague build me a 800hp carb motor.so this is what should get my boat in the high 70mph for now.i agree with you,i would ratter have a carb motor build with more hps but this is just a starter boat for me right now.i will worry about the high dollar shit later on.thanks for you advice..

Talked to bob at vortec, said 500hp efi with vortec dynoed at 735 hps with 714lbs of torque. The supercharger doesnt put the torque on the drive as much as blowers do from take off, so less harder on drive.

JWM: That must be the one Rob at Quality is doing. Sounds like he is just about there with the project. I am VERY interested on what the final numbers will be as he is going to do mine too.
