What price range, and power? What other boats are you comparing it with?

Sorry Tool, I don't have one so I can't really comment on it. I've got a friend who's thinking about a Victory (he currently has a 22' Sportcat) but I think it's a brand loyalty thing. The 28 is the one with the center driver/pass seating, right? I guess with a wide beam, It's be ok. Good power to weight ratio but a shallower deadrise - probably a fast boat for the size.
I'm partial to the Shockwave product - in this case the 29' Magnatude. I think they offer a lotta boat for the price. The Nordic 28 Heat is another nice boat in your price range. They weren't on your list so I thought I'd mention them.

Hey DHO, what does your buds Sportcat look like and what power? I'm always trying to find someone to compare notes with since they don't build that many Sportcats :)

I'm with laserray on this one- for that money jump into the elite. Go check out the Howard 28 Bullet and tell them Roln20s sent you, you will be impressed and Mike and Gene will definately take care of you. You owe it to yourself to ride in all of these boats, especially for that money.
Not sure if you are an Ultra fan or not, but John's 28 Stealth is definately a good boat too, and he will give you a good deal. Again, mention my name.

You can probably get a Howard 28 Bullet 496Ho around the 90K mark. Definately something to consider. Its expensive, but definately worth it.
Keep us up to date.

Wouldn't you at least want an HP500 in that hull?

If I were going to build a new boat, I think I would skip the HP 500, & go with a custom motor setup. I think you get more HP for your money?
So what is a HP500, a $18,000 bump over the base motor, add those 2 up & see what you get.
So what is everyone's opion on this aspect of building a new boat.

i'd go down in size to he 25 bullet and go BIG with the motor. if yuh shopp around it's not hard to find alternative power to merc's with alot more bang for the buck. GT,MarinePower,TomPapp, etc

It has grey/blue checkers at the rear. Sharp yellow tips running back to front. He's got a 454 MagHO with a Whipple (7lbs of boost). It's been GPS's at just under 100.

we almost bought a 28 victory but when we took one out we didn't like the rear seat space and the fact that you had to go around the center divider at the helm. Kinda like a chinese fire drill!
So, while I was about to order a 27 (more standard arrngement) my wife saw the 30 in the showroom and the rest is history.
the 28 with a 525 ran awsome! Good hadling, plenty fast etc.
Whatever you end up with - see ya on the water!

Why doesn't anyone bring up Fountain when people are looking for new boats? Are they out classed by boats like Eliminator, Howard & DCB? They seem to have good hulls and do well in the offshore races. Perhaps they are not considered a "Custom" boat. But then are Cigarettes really a "Custom" boat? I just see brand names popping up routinely here without a whole lot of variety sometimes. Perhaps I am just ignorant when it comes to what makes a true quality boat worth $85,000 to $90,000. (Way out of my price range.)
Confused!

You're estimate on the price bump may be a bit high assuming your just talking about the HP500 by itself (no steering upgrades). I know it varies by builder but I would think a $10k-$14k upcharge would be a bit closer.
I like bordsmnj's take - check out a 25 w/big power.

Hey, this would be the better motor for the 28 Bullet, but again, someone else mentioned the upgrade to HP500. Its around 18K with the external steering- its only 45 HP. If you get the closed deck 28, its 70mph with the 496HO, and high 60's on any given day.
May be a boring ride, but its definately nice looking.
As for more power, you can definately get a nice upgraded motor through a custom builder in the ballpark of the new 525s. But Merc motors are proven, and thats why they cost so much.
