i am considering a supercharger for our cheetah 24. i am a little conserned if the stock mpi can handle a procharger or whipple? the motor has only 20 hrs on it so its fairly new. does anyone know which one of these is a better set up? how about horsepower what kind of gains can i expect? any help would be appreciated thanks.

Hey if you haven't heard the 7.4 stock 310hp motor was not particularly good at being blown. If anything, some major parts need to be upgraded! The centrifugal (vortech)blower would be my only choice because they build power on the top end avoiding the torque build up early on. I literally chose to dump my 7.4 and went with a bigger motor!Be carefull...

You might try calling Jeff Clark (performance marine)in havasu his number is 520-855-8502.He did the motor for kevin spaise Hot boat mag.project boat. His specialty is supercharged motors. The guy is damn good and he wont try to sell you on somthing that wont work.I drag my Eliminator over 500 miles to let him work on it.

I have the same engine, and here is what I have been told:
If you are going to put a blower on it, use procharger w/intercooler. The exhaust valves on our particular engine have a small seat and therefore less heat is dissipated to the block because as you can guess less contact area.
Another thing, in a 25' boat do you have enough clearance to fit the large pulley needed for whipple blowers? I know in my 25' I didn't.

audiophan, what type of 25 hull?.In a 25 eagle you have to either notch the back seat bulkhead or move the whole seat forward 2 inches.

audiophan,
You don't need any forward clearance for the pulley system of our intercooled 310 MPI, the 10 rib system is located on the inside of the 6 rib accessories. If you can't fit that pulley in your boat, you certainly won't be able to fit a procharger in front of your 6 rib accessories.
If you run low boost and lots of water through your 454 310 motor, you'll have many hours of happy boating. The crank and rods are fine, it's the pistons. Our supercharger does not put any more stress on the engine.

Guess I've been straigtened out! The 25' I was speaking of is a 25' Checkmate Convincor.
