I ran across a 1977 Taylor SS today, below average condition, left side window busted, rear seat tore in center, soft spot in floor between front seats, and several cracks some idiot "fixed" by drizzling resin on the cracks that became humps after sanding. It has a 460 with new heads and new front seats. It has the 12-JE pump with what looks like a plate bolted under the pump bottom next to the boat transom. I that I found a rare boat with factory setback allready done but looks like the dreaded JE.Is there any hope for a decent boat out of this that will pull a tube all day and run 70-75 at dusk? I think talking him down from $2800 to $1900 is good or swapping my 79 460 powered Bronco with new 33" Swamper Thornbirds for it. I need a new toy to play with.

What could I expect with my 450-475 horse 429 in it's place? Also what all needs to be done to the pump? Just wondering if I should keep looking is all. What pump(s) should I look for? Lately all kinds available around here for 2-8k.

Well Im guestamating but thats about what my 460 makes(but im thinking more like 400/425ish) and as Far as the pump unless you are a DRAG BOAT racer the berk E pump is in my opinion is the best. The hand hole is outside easyer to work on gives more room on the insde of the boat. But that depends on your boating environment.

I've got a nice used one coming in, in the next week or so. Don't quite know the price yet, but if you want to pm me your information, I'll get in touch with you when it arrives.

I knew as soon as I posted that someone would have something to say like their boat does 70 to 75.
I`m not say that it cant be done, all I was saying is dont look for a $1900 boat to do it. That`s all
I also have an SJ and it`s nothing like an SS.

I never liked the look`s of the top on an SS. I always thought they named the two boats backwards...lol... The SJ should have been an SS...lol... I never looked at the bottom on an SS, just to big of a boat for me.
