Currently running 468 oval port Merlin, 240/244 cam, 8:1, 8-71 Kuhl front discharge @ 7% over, 750 Edelbrocks, 12 initial, 32 total timing. It runs crisp and clean, pipes are a nice tan color, idles at 600 rpm, starts on one click of the key. Have seen boost as high as 14 psi. I almost hate to change anything, but I'm stepping up to a superchilled 540/Dart 325 roller cam setup. Need opinions on using a cam I have:
Comp Camps 252/260, 680 lift, 108 c/l. I would advance it 2-4 degrees. I see lots of blower cams at 114 c/l but BDS cams are 110, so what would I gain or lose?
Hey Info, still have the Cougar for sale?

Detroit Jim: Yes the Cougar is still for sale. Will advertise it again late March/April when the buying urges get going.
I always run 114 lobe seperation no less than 112 on a blown engine. You loose boost with any less due to more valve overlap. You blow it out the exhaust. You will see a major difference with the correct cam.

Yo Craig I ran about 40degrees with 7.5 comp and I will part with those slugs real cheap!
Just kidding my fault.Small carbs, little fuel pump to much lead!! Ups. What are the favorite places to pick up cheap/killer carbs etc. Chet Herbert, Hawaii Racing?
Maybe time to Inject? What is cost H.P. effective? Reliable easily tuned ...Any one gave used stuff? Like new!?
Ok let me have it I know I want it all!!

Drew, I am running a 355 SBC with a 6-71 littlefield & 2-650 double pumpers. This motor has a long list of all the good stuff inside. 8.25:1 base compression and currently set up at 10psi boost. It just hasn't run like I think it should. I was just checking on timing as that is about the last thing to play with. I have been very conservative in my timing compared to what is listed here (28 deg. total, in by 2500 rpm) and maybe that will wake up my little mouse. Thanks for the responses.

Hey craig you did not make a typo I was trying to say I timed my motor by ear and with open headers it sounded great and I did not hear the detination. I lost pieces of piston with the top compression ring. Take time and time it right!!

Craig

Ahhhh, the old "TIME IT BY EAR" :d Sounds like you were off by just a "little" bit!!!
That's right up there with my, "we don't need that stinkin' rev limiter chip", followed shortly by "whats that smell? oil, something stinks and sounds funny?"
