Someone told me they think that the "mannish-looking woman" on Deadwood is playing Calamity Jane (a real person who lived during that time period). Does anyone know if that's her character's name?
Here's some info on her:
Calamity Jane’s real name was Martha Canary. She was born in Missouri in the 1850s. So many stories and tall tales sprang up about her that the truth is hard to find. She claimed to have been a scout for George A. Custer, but this is doubtful. She is also the subject of many books and movies.

SPOILER: Don't read this if you don't want to know what's going to happen in Deadwood (it doesn't happen during any of the first three episodes but it will happen).
Ever hear of a poker hand called the "dead man's hand?" The name of that hand comes from the poker hand that Wild Bill Hickok was holding (Aces and Eights - two pair) when he was shot in Deadwood.
Wild Bill Hickok was a lawman, a stagecoach driver, a sharpshooter, and maybe even a spy during the Civil War. He ended up in Deadwood in 1876. There he was shot in the back of the head by gambler Jack ("Broken Nose") McCall in the Number 10 Saloon. Wild Bill is buried beside Calamity Jane in Mount Moriah Cemetery in Deadwood. He is the hero of many books and movies.
As most Wild West buffs are aware, James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok was killed by Jack Mc Call in Deadwood, Dakota Territory, on August 2, 1876. Hickock was shot in the back of the head while playing poker and holding Aces and eights (two pairs) ever since known as the "dead man's hand."
The first newspaper report of Hickok's death was published in Deadwood's only newspaper, the Black Hills Pioneer, on August 5, 1876. The headlines read:
ASSASSINATION OF WILD BILL HE WAS SHOT THROUGH THE HEAD
BY JOHN MC CALL
WHILE UNAWARE OF DANGER
ARREST, TRIAL, & DISCHARGE
OF THE ASSASSIN
WHO CLAIMS TO HAVE AVENGED
A BROTHER'S DEATH
IN KILLING WILD BILL
The text read: "On Wednesday about 3 o'clock the report stated that J.B. Hickok (Wild Bill) was killed. On repairing to the hall of Nuttall and Mann, it was ascertained that the report was too true. We found the remains of Wild Bill lying on the floor. The murderer, Jack Mc Call, was captured after a lively chase by many of the citizens, and taken to a building at the lower end of the city, and a guard placed over him. As soon as this was accomplished, a coroner's jury was summoned, with C.H. Sheldon as foreman, who after hearing all the evidence, which was the effect that, while Wild Bill and others were at a table playing cards, Jack Mc Call walked in and around directly back of his victim, and when within three feet of him raised his revolver, and exclaiming, "damn you, take that," fired; the ball entering at the back of the head, and coming out at the centre of the right check causing instant death, reached a verdict in accordance with the above facts "

( I have trouble watching Richard Geer as well) It's rather distracting isn't it? But seems to be becoming( is that redundant) a normal occurance nowadays. O.J. is un-watchable, I cringe when I see him out in public shaking hands and smiling.

I am so glad he moved to Florida, so we don't have to look at his sorry ass. When I lived in Garden Grove, Nicole's family lived there, in these really nice houses (yes there are some in Garden Grove) and it was just common knowledge that he beat her
very sad.....:(
