Planning a camping trip to lake Mojave between May 7th and 9th (anyone comes by is welcome to a beer).
Question is where on the shore to camp. I would like to have access by car/truck so I was thinking near the ramp at Cottonwood (just over the hill to the south) or 6 mile cove or one of the other dirt rodes.
Anyone recommend something???

I would be curious to get some info as well.

I am not sure where exactly to camp but there are plenty of coves. I would definitly go North from Cottonwood though and you should find a nice cozy place.
Jason knows the lake pretty good so maybe a quick PM to him and he can help you out.

We've talked about doing an OP6 there a few times. If/when I host again, I might to do it there. I've always wanted to do an OP6 on that lake.
Last year we did a So Cal Hot Boat event on Mohave, based out of the Riverside, and launching at Katherine's. It was a good time.
As for the original question of where to camp. If you don't mind total beach camping (roughing it), then you should go to the Telephone Pole Cove on the Nv. side (although I've heard it called different names). You access it by taking the dirt road about 3miles up the highway from Laughlin. There's a thread on here somewhere with specific directions. I'll try to find it and post the link. You can launch right off the beach there (I'm assuming you have a 19' jet boat by your username ;) ).
There is another place up north of Cottonwood on the NV side, but it seems small and busy. I forgot the name, seems to me it's up near the power lines, between Cottonwood & Willow Beach.
I'll search for that thread and get the link if I find it....

1) Between Hoover and Davis Dam, north of Laughlin.
2) Yes.
3) Katherine's is on the south end.
4) 12 minutes from Laughlin.
5) Boating is popular on the lake, as is houseboating on the north end.
6) Laughlin - Don Laughlin's Riverside Resort.
7) Boat with more people than you have life jackets on board.
I hope that answers your questions.

Thank you.
Telephone Cove is one of the coves I was looking at. The National Park Service (NPS) has good maps of the lake on their web site.
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with the beaches (for camping) north of Cottonwood. I think the south end of the lake gets crowded by Laughlin. Roughing it works for my group.

We camped about 3 miles south of Hoover dam last fall. It was absolutely beautiful. There's not a whole lot of campsites, but we were there midweek and there was a slew of them available.... weekends might be another story. I'd call the folks at willow beach, feel them over and see if they'll give you an idea about how easy it is to get an open beach to the north and south of them. You won't regret the trip, the water is pristine, but cold too! Looking up at Hoover dam is a headtrip and facsinating. It's a must do trip for all boaters at least once. There are some pics of that part of lake mojave posted here and there.

Tons of good beaches north of Cottonwood. Just go out and take your pick.
If you're ypu're looking for car access, there is an old airstrip directly across from Cottonwood on th AZ side. You can't launch from there, but it might work for a motorhome type deal if you don't mind a short climb.
Another option is the old Eldorado Marina site about 1/2 way between Cotonwood and Willow Beach on the NV side. There is still a road from Nelson down to the lake there and some good beaches too.
Mohave is a great place, especially the noth end. You'll have a great time.

I have beach camped up there, it's great! The water VERY COLD - high 50s year around, and there's no vehicle access.
The Hot Springs are very nice though!!!!
From what I've seen on Mohave, if there's vehicle access, there'll be other people.
Check out this website: www.riverlakes.com They have great info, and photos.

There is a campground at Cottonwood Cove as well as a Motel and facilities such as slips. We camped there years ago and rented one motel room for everyone to use for showers and stuff as we had a big group. The motel is usually booked but try to get on the waiting list for the weekend you want to go just in case. The north end of the lake (above Cottonwood) is beautiful.

Once you're a few miles south of Willow is warms up very nicely. But north of Willow Beach is in the 50s year-around! ;)

My bad....I thought the pic was the from the cove just below the big basin (below Cottonwood) where the shallow beach is on the left fork and the diving rock in on the right....someone on these boards once called that "gasoline alley".

That one you are referring to is right at the 12 mile marker on the AZ side. At least I know of one in there that is much wider than Gasoline Ally. The 12 mile marker one is much more family oriented.

i think the pics are scanned so they are reversed, but anywaysgasoline alley is only a couple miles up from catherines, I love jumping off the rocks, not too family oriented during holiday weekends, but nothing like havazoo

Thats it :). Right where the HB is parked a lot of times there is grass there. That is where burros come down and you can feed them. I know, I know...don't feed them but who can resist

Can't waite to go. On the NPS web site - www.nps.gov/lame/home.html I was able to find a map of the backcountry roads. I am looking at 33 - Opal Mountain Rd and 34 - Copper Mountain Rd.
They both have the camping signs at the end - Beach camping ???
I don't know about launching, but I can launch at Cottonwood and motor up.
Are they charging at Cottonwood Yet? I don't mind paying to keep using such a nice lake, just wondering.

Haven't been there yet. Still trying to figure out if we're gonna be up there for Memorial. May try to get out to Havasu or Parker this year instead of just heading to Laughlin all season. We like all the action during the holidays, but I wanna do an off-holiday trip for sure this year. I need to move closer to the river dammit.:D
