Finally paid off the boat.http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/4/4_17_206.gif ('http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008')
Now I can focus on getting my next toy. Thinking about a party
cruiser to tow the ski boat. Or maybe a Harley.
Decisions, decisions.

Paid off???? What must that feel like, I wonder.
I just bought my boat and have an 87 year payment plan. When I pay my boat off I'm gonna buy....
A walker

I had the 10 year plan and paid it off 1 year early.
My hair's not even turning gray yet.
Figure out the interest on that.

I own mine outright too... I'd really like a larger (25-26') maybe a cat, but I don't want a payment... So I'll probably be happy with the little Ultra for a while...

I finance "appreciable" assets not "depreciable" assets. The first category is property and the second is toys, cars, trucks, etc.

its the other way around, (withing reason of course), you finance depreciable assets.
use your cash to buy appreciable assets.
leverage is a good thing if used wisely.
another board member put it best.... if it floats, flys, ****s or drives... rent... DON"T own it.

Renting and financing toys are two completely different things...renting implies spending as needed when needed financing to me means paying the finance charges while is sitting unused.

I am with you on this one. I meant cash for down.

congrats to you!
After I made the third payment on my boat on a ten-year loan,
I had a thought..... What the hell did I sign up for-!
so, being single, I made extra payments, always paid more than
was required, and more often any OT, or tax return-type money
went to pay off the boat.
I paid off a 10 year loan in 4 years.
all while paying off a 10 year student loan in 5 years, a 5 year
truck loan paid off in 4 years..
And now I make almost 3x of what I used to, but can't seem to
save a dime, yet pay off anything quickly..... the life of being
married.......
word: buy toys before marriage..........

My boat has been paid off for the last 6 years. Hummm, that was 3 motors, and 5 drives ago, plus a few stereo parts and we must not forget your boat is never the way you want it.
Jut ask my wife, I overspent last year on this motor by about $15,000. She was not too happy, now i need a good drive to handle the power.
By the way the boat went from a Blown motor to a stock motor ot and efi back to Blown. The cycle never ends.
But congradulations on now being able to spend on a dime, now that your boat is paid off.

Refinancing your home to buy a boat does not at all constitute paying cash for your boat, it is simply financing your boat through your home. I think it's funny when people say they paid cash for their boat cause they refi'd. Take money from an appreciating item to buy a depreciating item over a 30 year period???? I guess that deserves the right to be called "paid cash" because thats a poor business move.

That depends....How fast is your house going up and how long do you plan to live in it?
