Ultra's 21 Shadow Deck...

Was wonderin'... Anybody on the boards owning one of these with jet drive? If so, I'd certainly appreciate your comments reg. how it handles, etc... Also, any chance I can take a look at your boat to decide whether or not I'd be interested in buying one?

I gots the TPR version, I LOVE IT!! Rides great, plenty of room. With 400 HP she does 61MPH. I am workin on more power now though!!

Thanx Dan... I am a bit confused... on Tom Papp's web site, it says that the boat only weighs 1000 pounds... but on Ultra's site it indicates 3100 (approx) pounds... even if Tom Papp is just referencing the bare hull, 2100 pounds sounds alot for just seats and the drive/motor package, does it not?
At any rate, most of my boating is on the river as I try to stay away from havazoo or Mohave... so I thought that it would be a good family/performance compromise for my family. But I hear these horror stories about it not getting on the plane quicky without some 500 plus horsepower... is that true? what engine do you have in it? 454, 496? carbureted or fuel injected? Also, I called Ultra and by the time you get any decent options on the engine, U r up to 60k... wow... it was alot more than I thought...

Mike...The 21 deck is only available from Ultra. Tom Papp sold the molds to me about 4 or 5 years ago. The weights on his site are wrong. The boat runs well with stock power. The boat was tested with a 502 and it ran right around 69 or 70 MPH. If you have any questions give me a call 951-734-6000

thanx... what would you recommend with 6 (average) size adults on board, full tank of gas and wanting to do around 55-60 miles/hour with a decent hole shot to get an adult skier up?
by the way... is the 6 liter fuel injected or carb? and if an option, would u recommend FI for more horsepower?

The 6.0 is FI. I would got with 502 for the best performance.

Just rode and drove a brand new one with a 502/502 carb with lightning headers and it did very well. Holeshot is what to expect from a 21' jet boat but did awsome in bigger water(Needles bridge to Topock Bridge). The open feel of the boat is thebest part. Perfect familyriver hotrod. With more power it would be exceptional, but that is a universal truth in any boat.

This boat is top of my list when upgrade time comes around. I have not ridden in or driven one, but having seen them in action and up close it is my choice.

a guy down the street from me has one of the first ones that was made and he has a jet. not sure of the powerplant but i know he does his boating in blythe and seems to love the boat. i have not heard any regrets about buying it!
