Here's the scenario:
BBC 454 steel crank 2bolt block, w/large oval port heads- casting number unknown, but all stock.
9.5:1 CR
Fairly lumpy street/strip cam- undetermined specs
HiPerf GM HEI ignition
Edelbrock Torker 2 manifold
Basset headers w/short collector
Installed in 17'6" v-drive flat w/ 22 gears, 11" prop w/undetermined pitch.
Operating at 740' above sea level- lake boat only- no serious competition
What would you put on top of it for a carb?

for just baselining your setup and fun easy cruising a 750 vacuum sec with jetable secondary plate and quickchange spring kit is reliable and cheap. not trick but when fine tuned it'll give good performance for a small port bbc and good holshots and mileage. my .002.;)

Holley 800cfm Mechanical Secondaries, and I would get rid of the torker 2 manifold for a performer RPM.

Is this in a jetboat or O/D? In a jetboat, I recommend a double pumper/mech secondary carb everytime. Instant RPM and you can achieve max rpm faster with the double pumper. It will accel better. The holly 9022 marine 800 cfm carb would work pretty well

It's a v-drive. I'd still go with a carb with mechanical secondaries, 800 or 850. :D

I'd go 850 double pumper, holley or demon. Depending on how hard you run it, I'd get rid of the Torker II. Bad manifold w/ fuel distribution problems, etc. Go w/ a new Performer RPM air gap or a victor jr.

Im with dave on this one.put the 850 dp and check the timing (32*-36*)and change out the manifold to good duel plane and that thing should work real good.
