Looking at a boat with a gen 6 454.Boat is a 1996.What crank,rods and pistons come in these?It is a 1996 mercruiser carb motor not efi.Also what heads and are the blocks 2 bolt or 4 bolt.Are they hydraulic roller?

The block is a 4 bolt the crank is cast and the rods are smaller then lets say marrk 4 truck rods.Been through 4 of these engines and upgraded parts are a bitch to find.also they are externally ballanced but not sure on that.

Roller 4 bolt might be a mag motor, does it have a half circle at the parting line on the front of the cyl head? If it does you got a 365 horse with forged pistons, crank, 7/16 rods rectangle port heads, and hi-rise aluminum intake.
If not it is a 4 bolt roller 330 horse with cast crank,and pistons,3/8 rods,cast iron low rise intake,and small peanut heads.

How much would one be worth.Fresh rebuild with new hyd roller cam,roller rockers,9:1 comp with edelbrock performer intake.Complete pan to carb.Motor is balanced.Carb is what came on it factory.I am trying to find out if the motor has a steel crank.He said they put arp rod bolts in.I need to get more info from the owner.If i buy bought then im going to sell this motor and lower the comp on my 565".

Alan i just did one, it had a blk powder coat perf. rpm pull valve cover and see if the head has 188 last three numbers. it will be 4 bolt 7/16 rods and forged pistons, by the way i'll take the dooley scoop, Jim

Gen 6 blocks are all 4 bolt main, Hydralic roller cam, 1 piece rear main and externally balenced. Stock have cast pistons flattops marginal rods. Crank is good cast. Heads have small combustion chambers must run flattop pistons due to chamber shape. I,me running a Gen 6 block stock crank 7/16 rods forged pistons LS6 type and ported 049 heads. Also running 5 lbs boost. Sweet setup. Already set up for factory roller. Runs like a raped Ape.

Well if it does not have the good stuff I have it.
Forged nitrided gen VI crank 7/16 dimple rods and HP 500 hyd roller cam and lifters.
2 sets of each actually.
