This really sucks!!! !!!
Fielded several calls Mon & Tues only to learn:
Apprently there were a couple of unlicenced, uninsured, hatchet yeilding, chain draging, poorly equipped, cut throats taking full adavatage of the people caught in Saturdays storm. This is bullshit!!!
It's bad enough these peoples boats are smashing on and being torn up on the rocks or worse yet completely sunk. Theses guys were charging TRIPLE, yes TRIPLE the normal rate for simple recoverys. Unbelievable!!!!
Emotions run high and adrenaline is off the scale when a sinking or grounding takes place but to be laid away and taken advantage of like that just sucks, big bucket of suck!!!!!!!
Remember this:
After everybody is safe and secured from the vessel, you now no longer have a emergency stiuation on your hands. You now have the time to regroup, consider all your options and make sound, prudent decisions you won't regret later.
Hope this helps someone in the future.

Make sure you know the law and your rights before signing the paper work on salvaging. You can get boned pretty bad.

Dan, Do you know what a persons rights are and what the law is in that situation? If you do could you post for the rest of us?
The salvage companies have you by the balls in that situation, that's for sure!

Thanks BH. I'm insured with BoatsUS and they send monthly or quarterly newsletters on such things as salvaging and tips on "reading" weather, etc.....

Not that anyone will have any other choice if they find themselves in this situation in the future but do you care to post WHO was over charging or was it all of them? Yea really sucks taking advantage of some one while they are down.
