You see lots of twin engine boats, how come there are not more triple engine boats?

I'm going to go with the beam of the boat being one reason and the size of the engine compartment as another. Also, there a few boats that truly need triples.

a lot more gas and maintenance cost for very little gain in speed;) [older 38 scarabs for example] .The engines need to be staggered etc.....

This boat [#1 hull] has triples [ need the extra engine to move the extra water with the babe in it;) ] . My buddy has #2 hull with triples and surface drives [ 100 Gph cruising:eek!: ]http://www3.telus.net/spectrasonly/OP_BragintonCapa.jpg

Seems to me with the average size of boats getting bigger that more boats would have triples. I guess the Cons don't out way the Pros. How much speed can a third motor actually provide?

even if it didn't provide any more power, it could still function as a redundant, hot swappable drive.
:)
I'm on side with the 3rd motor idea.

And need hands the size of a catchers mitt to work the throttles and shifts.
