On the map its called sandy point, most of us on that side of the lake call it sandy point. I guess there's another sandy point, that all the folks who boat in the Boulder Basin area call the Sandy Point north of south cove Big Sandy.

Did I ask you about renting boat slips?
are there any, what do you do with your boats at night?

we'll more than likely be out on memorial day weekend too. dropping the boat in at overton and heading to lvhb beach. as far as slips go, i think the places that have them available for overnight rentals allow nothing bigger than 24 feet. the slips themselves are only 20ft but they allow a 4ft overhang.

I'll be the guy collecting aluminum cans for gas money...

I have'nt been to Lake Mead since the 80's.....LOL
We will all have to get together for a beer!

FYI, Overton may be moved by then (to Stewarts point) and Echo is already closed. "sandy" usually refers to the cove just out of Calleville, Sandy Point is up past Mead View. I haven't been to Hallett beach yet this year, its been real windy the two times I've been on the lake, and it was quite cool until this week-end. First humurous incident at Hemminway launch ramp last week: Some guy with about a 24 footer had it on the limiter in reverse trying to get off the trailer. As soon as he submerged his Tahoe, it floated free. fun, fun, fun. My slip is right at the end of the ramp. Its going to be an interesting year...

T & B, Echo could be open by now, they moved the marina out 700 feet. Before the move the courtesy dock and launch ramp were closed. See you at Long Beach (formerly Hallett Beach) sometime this year...

The launch ramp being closed is horse shit. A few years ago we got in to Temple Bar about 4am and drove down to the launch ramp to check it out. The rangers had put a sign saying "launch ramp closed." Around 8am we were backing down the ramp when the ranger came flying down with lights on. He gets out of his SUV and tells me that the ramp is closed. So i ask him are you going to ticket me for launching? He tells me no. I said have a nice day, and launched the boat.

the initial plan to move echo bay out 700ft was cancelled. the latest and greatest plan is to move it out in increments of 70ft. the last time i was out there, it was still deep enough to launch house boats. the lane getting to and from the launch ramp was getting pretty narrow though.

Rude, earlier this year, when the ramp and courtesy dock were closed,(you couldn't get a boat between the dock and rocks) there was talk that it would have to be moved out and westerly as well. Guess I'll take up a run up there soon and see again for myself...

yes, try the following: www.gf.state.az.us/
Click on Lake Levels, then pick your lake, as example; Mead is down 93' and Powell is down 117'

i'm not sure if they have their own ramp, but i was told by the manager at the marine that they were still able to put the houseboats in and out on the public ramp. it's been a number of weeks since i've been out there. hopefully it's still usable  i hopeing to make a trip out there in the next week or two. i'm really JONESING to hit the water!

What was going to be a fun filled holiday weekend at lake mead, has gone by the waysides.
Origionally when I posted this thread I was excited about spedind 4 days at the lake, as were my younger brothers, my roommates, some other friends, and = # of girls.
So where do I start, my one roommate graduated and was going to start a new job, and was like "well since I'll be starting a new job I can't go." OK, fine, well one night his girlfriend let it slip that they were going to Palm Springs, Leaving Wed and coming home Mon. THAT PISSED ME OFF to say the least.
Roommate #2 decides that he's going to goto Austrila for 4weeks and Fijigi for 2weeks, for the hell of it. LUCKY BASTARD, but still.
Other friends backed out for several reasons money, going home, blah, blah, blah. Most of them are flakely anyhow.
Equal number of girls, once some of them found out that I was talking about lake mead and not havasu they all backed out. I don't understand women and I've accepeted the fact that I never will.
Younger brother didnt want to go for 3 reasons: 1) roomie #2 wasnt going, 2) no girls & 3) I was taught everything needed to be done (for boating), and he was expected to know it!
Youngest brother ****ed up big time on some college entrence things, so dad grounded him unitl he's a old enough to legally drink, or rectify the situation and get into a 4/5 year school.
So i was still going to go all by myself and work on the place, fix the boat, all the stuff I didnt do over the winter, and I could always bum a ride off someone or take out my lake lice. Untill my dad pulled rank and told my brothers & I that as a family we have something to do memorial day weekend, all i know is it will not involve boating in anyway shape or form. Thus the only water I'll be seeing this memorial day will be in a swimming pool or glass.
To all those who are still going to lake mead have a great holiday weekend, post pictures when you return, and be safe.

Washing the boat and polishing the motor tonight. Boat is dirty from Sunday's run to El Capitan in Santee. My folks have a place in Boulder City and I am heading up Thurs. evening and staying through Monday. I have a '77 Hallett Bubble Deck 19' with a big block Ford with a polished tunnel ram manifold and two Holleys up top. It has over the transom Bassett headers and is white with candy red metal flake. The name is Retro Fit. I will be with my folks who have a 22' Schiada crusier that is yellow with about 13 colors on it (boat was built in the 80's) and our friend who has a yellow and white 20' Spectra jet boat. We might also have a 25 foot Carrera cat with us. Hope to see some of you out there!

there are lots of coves, some protected better than others.

I don't know what time Sat we will hit the water, Co-ordinating 20 people to get up, dressed and out of the hotel (?) I just don't know.....29 hours to go!:D
Ouch, 20 people... I have a hard time getting 5 people up dressed, fead, & in the boat. And I'm only 1min or so from the launch ramp.
My advice is start banging on doors about 6ish to (hopefully) get out on the water by 10.

The biggest problem is the girls gettin thier beauty on. That's the bulk of the wasted time, gettin the beauty on. I myself take 1/2 hour. That is way too long...
I'm all about gettin on the water early.

LOL... I hear that, I take about a 1/2 hour myself too, 15 mins of that is spent droping the kids in the pool, if you catch my drift.

Matt and Deb nice meeting you guys saturday.
We had a real muddy piece of beach sunday but watched you guys playing tube for a while. Took a walk with my girl, saw your friends 30' and Matt on the beach with his boat gone.....That must have been tough....
Hope your trip went easy. After the fire extinguisher story I told you guys sat, I got ticketed for being too loud sat night pulling into the marina.....

I am so tired. . .
ok, just one post, how far behind am I?
I had a great weekend. (note to self, start a thread with my pics) I met "Titties and Beer" on the best beach at the lake, should have stayed for dinner, cause the food at the Hacienda sucks! I met dicudmore as well. It made my day, meeting you guys after talking to you all these ....weeks....I drove the boat, (really fast) we dinged our swim step on the dock, I screwed up launching, messed up the winch, and on the way home our diamond plate on our trailer fender, came loose and scratched our boat. We got off the lake about 2:30 after the launching episode and "cleaning party" BUT our friends boat ran out of gas and so we didn't leave untill 5pm (ahhhhh!) Lots of traffic, accidents, stupid drivers!! (Oh I was driving the boat back to the marina cause SCREAM was beer bonging, and these sea doos, turn right in front of me. I was ready for it, but wow! Driving back into the sun, was difficult. We saw so many cop boats out there on Saturday.
All in all, a great weekend, I was impressed with the lack of people at the lake, (I have been to Havasu at Labor Day) I think we need to go to Lake Mead more often! Driving to the Lake Friday I counted 15 police car!! during our drive. Ok, I am sleepy, sore, sunburned and have to go to work in the morning! I will post my pics tomarrow!
See Ya!
:D :D :D :D
