View Full Version : Exhaust thoughts

I recently bought a low profile jet with a 454, about 350 HP.
I want to run the eng cover so I am restricted to water jacketed headers, which I can't afford.
Or logs, which are highly restrictive,
Or.... would this type exhaust be a better choice?
I think they will fit under the cover, and due to the fact that they have a dedicated runner for each port, I would think that they would have to flow better than a set of logs.....
The only down side so far is that they weigh 62lbs apiece,
What does a set of aluminum logs weigh?

Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Tim,
Check out- http://www.mooreperformance.org he has manifolds in cast iron and aluminum. Wish I had found his site before I bought Mercruiser manifolds, his look just as well made with a much better price. If your not running in saltwater you could use aluminum and they probably weigh just over half.. just my .02 but remember I don't know squat.

Would these manifolds from Moore performance perform better than the standard log type on a V-drive or jet? Looks like you could do the whole setup for under $700.

I was lucky enough to be given a set of Stellings stainless steel headers. They made a huge difference......I mean HUGE!!!!!!But the cost of them is crazy. I think these were around $3000 new.
I gained about 600 rpm,s. Im not real sure on top end. It feels faster...:D
