I ordered 4 of the LD-3's for floatation. Gonna put them in the sponsons at the rear. 120lbs floatation each.

15 gallons. It is 8x6x74. 1/8" aluminum with aircraft fill. Secured to stringers with beams front and rear. I know it is small, but how much gas can a mouse use. I would like to polish it, but i just dont have the time this year.

Thanks Brother Dan. Too bad i dont have a nice motor (like you) to put in it. Maybe next year.

Mike, good looking sled, and you posted pics just in time! I'm trying to find a front mount alternator setup like yours for my blower motor. Have you or any of you guys seen where I can get one? And do you need a special alternator?
Again, sweet ride, I'm gonna unload the hydro for a tunnel someday, definately the way to go!

I got the idea from mikey's (bottlefedjet) 'bomb' motor. I couldn't find one, and i suppose i couldnt afford it either so i made my own design. Quite a bit of speculation went into it. The delco marine alternator is a three wire which will turn on at a lower speed. Probably starts to charge at about 1800rpm (that is if they work backward, i cant think of a reason why not). . Usually alternators are overdriven 300%. The couplings are just rated for the expected torque at the rpm expected by consulting charts and making equivalent calculations. I made the rest of the parts.
I should have driven it off of the driveshaft.

Bill, a tip from a long time mechanic...
Bag and label all bolts so you know where they go.

Well, Tim, maybe you can help me out. I just got another SBC but it is in pieces. The former owner bagged all the pieces and marked them carefully for each cylinder. Rods, caps, pistons and their respective bolts labled carefully (i thought).. Even the lifters and valves (and the keepers, rockers pushrods and such) were labled cylinder and "I" for intake and "E" for exhaust.
Now as i am putting it back together i come to the "6"... or is it a "9" He did not underscore it to tell me which cylinder it is.
Is there any way to tell?

Just my .02, Im not a writting teacher but the leg on my nines are straight and my sixes have a little curve. Sounds stupid but it could be something that might help you. I just looked in my check book and noticed my wifes are the same too.

OK, ill go with that. Now another question. At the end of last year i had read all of the torque vs hp discussions.
I kinda go with horsepower myself, but not wanting to leave any stone unturned in my quest for knowledge i decided to put the torque thing to the test.
I know diesels have lots of torque at lower rpm so i did this:
My stock 454 turned about 4600rpm with an A berkeley impeller so i got one of them 9.25 (tripleA?) impellers, had the bowl hawged out (the impeller wont fit in the stock berkeley bowl) and mixed some diesel in with the gas ( i know that diesels dont like high rpm). I figured that the lower rpm and increased torque would do ok.
Well it started ok but then began to smoke and ping and raise all kinds of hell. Just what are them torque guys thinkin of??

Mike, have you ever heard of a carburated deisel?
There's your problem, deisel must be injected!
It'll run good with big torque after you install a JohnDeere Inj.
Sytem.....
LOL.
