Ok i am looking into put a new motor into my boat and holding on to it for a couple more seasons....
From what you guys have heard or experienced what is the typical amount of labor needed to install a new motor.
I have a 202xr with a marine power 454 and an american turbine pump...all accesory peices are on the new motor and the pump is being left alone for now
I was told it would take between 60 to 75 hours..between 4 to 5 grand???
Does this sound right I have no clue as this is my first time having this kinda work done to my boat..

Sounds steep to me considering I had my motor pulled, pump rebuilt and motor reinstalled in a matter of barely a day and a half.....

4-5 grand to RnR an engine? Way high. There's a shit load of guy on the boards that could do it for less. Assuming the mounts, wiring etc are the same and you have minimal work to do. Good luck

the mounts i was told would be the same but the wiring they said would need a little work
Im either gonna go with the Teague 620 or teague's crate motor or I may just stick with Marine power and get their 502 and call it a day

Try posting this in the Jet forum. Might get more coverage there with guys that know a thing or two about RnR'ing a motor in a jet boat.

Should be 4 hours start to finish. When I worked at Carrera, two of us could rig a 202 in a day from start to finish. To take out the motor and drop in another motor, hook it up, and go should take between 2-3 hours depending on what needs to be changed and if things match up.
If you really want to get kicked in the junk and way over pay, kick down $2k and I will do it then kick you just as hard! :D j/k. I would guess that it should probably cost around $500-750 if you get someone to do it. Full day job from setup to cleanup, but shouldn't take more than a full day.

Boat motors are way easy to cherry pick. They must be drinking
beer while their working, or to many coffee breaks.

So the 60 to 75 hours, that's for installation and set up only?? That sounds pretty rediculous. Especially considering BadBlown572 saying it should be a 4 hour job.
At 60 hours that means there'd be a guy installing your motor for 7 days strait??? I could do it in my driveway in 7 days. 5 days I'd be sitting in my office doing my job and then for 2 days (Sat & Sun) I'd be installing that motor and it would be done:)
Who gave you that quote if you don't mind me asking? Just want to make sure I stear clear of them:D

THE quote for 60 to 75 hours was from Teague..it sounded a little extreme to me too.
he said the 620 goes for 30 g's and the crate motor goes for 11
The crate motor i would use some parts from my marine power 454.

the crate motor is rated at 575 HP

Oh, well shit, if it's Teague doing it and the motor is 30k then 5k for install is pretty good:D Seriously. If you're going large you might as well follow through with the service.
If you go with the crate motor you can get a cheaper install most anywhere I would think.

This isn't really my area of expertise but have you considered a Marine Assault engine? I know the owner.

For that kind of money I'll leave for Cali in the morning. To Pull and replace a motor here in Fla we charge $600 flat rate with same engine or similar swap, unless there is alot of work to get to the engine. Maybe I should raise my prices if that's what they get all the sime.

Personally, I would go with a new crate motor. The new crate motors you can use your same rear bellhousing, couplers, flywheel, motor mounts, exhaust (I think), and all other hardware. Worst case scenario is that the motor harness doesn't match up to what you have, but that can be taken care of in about 30 minutes with some wire and connectors. No big deal.
Havasu, the new crate motors are actually under rated. Besides if you want to be over 600hp it only takes a small amount of massaging and you have got it. Sounds much better to me financially. The only downside is that you don't get the cool/trendy Teague sticker.

For 600 bucks I will pull the old one and drop in the new one in my driveway. Take no more then a few hours, You buy the beer. I got a nice picker ready to go.
