Holy crap! This friggin thing didn't look that big in the Summit catalog! I mean yeah, I knew it was big, just not this big.
http://www.jetheaven.us/photopost/data/500/19scoopoops.jpg
My kid put it over his head and sounded like Darth Vader. It's big enough, you could put some wheels on it and use it for a camper trailer. Maybe I'll just camp out in it for the freeboard challenged deal. It's probably almost as big as cyclone's trailer.
Heck, put some furniture in it, and it could be an apartment for a family of vertically challenged people.
I know I said I wanted a big huge obnoxious looking scoopie doo, but I believe I may have outdone myself this time.
Tunnelram is done and it'll be going on this weekend (for the mostpart anyway). Intake swap and carbs for sure and I'll probably need to pick up some fittings n stuff. It turned out pretty good.............just took forever. Still waiting on my linkage. The carbs will mount sidesaddle, not inline like the picture.

It looks good in the pic, are you going to paint to match?

suddenly my trailer looks much smaller. :D
personally i think that scoop looks great. makes the boat look all pissed off. it probably added 50 hp. 100 hp if its a carbon fiber scoop. :D

The scoopy looks good but will look better when painted. Id worry about the position of the passenger seat unless you are taking a 8 foot tall chick with you, but then nobody would notice the big scoop so it would be a wash.

Yeah, paint to match is the plan. Want to use both orange and yellow and carry the scallops on the side of the hull up to the scoop. I gotta tell ya though, I'm really debating. The big prostock scoops look kinda funny sitting on a little skinny tunnelram. They look much better on a blower motor. I wasn't real crazy about harwood's work either. It looks like the guy that laid it up, or blew it in or whatever went to sleep and put a double thickness of fiberglass on one side and so little on the other side, it's literally paper thin. If I'm gonna use it I have to glass in some brackets in order to bolt it to the pan anyway so I guess it wouldn't be a huge deal to lay a little more glass in that area.
I don't know guys.............. It's friggin huge

Get ahold of tom papp.He has aguy that makes pans for that scoop.Just give him the dimensions and your center to center measurement in carbs. The pans are bitchen. The bottoms are stamped out like a dooley pan.

Thanks Edge, but I've got a plan and materials gathered up already. A buddy of mine runs a blown flattie and he's got a real neat, sturdy setup. Making a pan from 1/8" aluminum plate (I know, I know typical Dan overkill) it'll sit up high enough that I won't need to cut any reliefs in it for carb parts to clear, and I can get the bowls off for jetting without removing the pan etc.
I'll post up some pics if anybody is interested in seeing it. Not trying to take business away from anybody, but I like to do stuff myself whenever possible.

I know the feeling about it looking too big, then I look at it without the magnifying glass. But seriously, I just bought the Harwood Aero Scoop from Summit (3258) and when I got the box, I thought it was way too big. My engine is all apart being built, so I had nothing to go by. I was thinking of sending it back for a couple of weeks, then I took it by GoFastRacer's house and looked at it against his injector setup. I think it will work. I think it is all the black that makes it look too big. Once it gets painted, I think it will be ok. I am mounting mine on a dual high rise like yours, and will be mounting the carbs sideways too. Here is a picture of it.

Thanks for the input guys. I reckon I'll go for it as that seems to be the general opinion. I agree Cole it'll probably look better when it's painted to match. I guess we'll see. If nothing else she'll look faster anyway.
Here's a question for ya'll though. If you look at the picture you can see the molding seam where they joined the front half to the back. Since the glass is a little thin (especially on that one side I mentioned earlier) I was thinking about using some body filler/bondo to hide the seam then sand/smooth it that way rather than trying to just sand it out and risk burning through. I have no experience to speak of with regards to body work so I'd be looking for any helpful pointers you might care to give (type of material to use, tips on how to apply, and things like that).
Thanks
Dan

I had one of those scoops on my jetboat when I first bought it. It was huge, bright yellow(painted to match the boat) and sat on top of a single carb tunnel ram so it looked like it was 10 ft in the air! I thought it was dumb looking as did many of the other boaters I was around. I either got laughed at or got someone wanting to race.....Thats just my opinion and experience with it, I now have a velocity stack and am gonna upgrade to a singe carb aluminum scoop.

I've got no problem with the racing part of it. I have a hard enough time drumming up races as it is, so maybe this'll help. It's funny, there's lots of nice boats here on the Arizona lakes but it's dang hard getting anyone to run ya. I even ask the guys with blowers and get turned down (I have no problem getting beat, I just like the thrill of racing). Our crew races against each other all the time, but we already know what's gonna happen, so it kinda takes some of the fun out of it. The pecking order is pretty well established, since we've all raced each other numerous times.
As for the joke thing. Whatever
Oh yeah, that's kinda funny too Bahner. I'm taking off my single scoop and putting on the big ol box. We kinda did things opposite eh?

I went through he same thing with a harwood scoop. They are a little too pro stock for a river racer.
I have one kinda like squirtchas for sale if anybody needs one, its brand new and ready for paint, when they come from harwood, they are not even close to being ready for paint ,lol.

Maybe you wouldn't mind posting to my question above. Mine needs the prep and I'm an inexperienced body man. Got any tips?
Where were you a week ago? I'da bought yours before ordering a new one.

i would call or take it to a body shop that does corvettes and fiberglass work. they may have a product that works better than bondo. i would think the bondo would crack with the flexing. best guess here though would be resin and glass. they sell repair kits all over. even do-it center has em. and comes with all you need to do the job.
by the way, if you want, i have a dooley scoop i wont be useing if you want to compare the performance differances. im pretty sure its a 10 1/4" center to center. though after doing all this and spending all the cash i dont think youll change your mind. besides, if YOU like it. whats the prob?

I'd send it to Toddnjuzz on the boards out here, and have him paint it. He did a really good job on mine.

I have the same one at my house ready to go to paint. It is going on top of the be a lot higher. I don't like the all that black makes it look bigger comment. When mine is painted to match, it is black.

Dan, why are you mounting the carbs sideways instead of inline. Seems like inline is much simpler.

Squirtcha?
04-29-2004, 07:22 AM
It's simpler, however it's a pain inaass to change jets on the bowls that meet in the middle. There's not enough room to get the bowls off without pulling one of the carbs and I don't wanna go through that every time I want to change some jets. Since these carbs have the sidehung floatbowl you have to wrestle with the fuel transfer tubes too.

Cole Sanger
04-29-2004, 07:40 AM
I was told that the mounting of the carbs sideways had to do with the fuel slosh on acceleration and deceleration. Getting to the jets was the other reason. I can't remember the exact wording my friend said about the fuel slosh, but he is pretty knowledgeable and I trust him. Anyone have a better explaination?

I just see the Dooley scoops everywhere I look. Not that I don't like them, or that there is anything wrong with them. I used to have one on my boat. I just wanted something you don't see everyday. I was going to go with one of those DS-125 scoops by Unlimited Products, but got the shaft from them. This scoop was my second choice, but is growing on me.

Ditto on the dooley. Tons of em running around out there. I'm taking one off (of course it's only for a single carb). Victor, I saw your post and your dooley won't fit mine, the centers are off by over an inch. Appreciate the offer though and sorry for the late response.
The only other thing I'd like to run would be dual velocity stacks. If I do this right, it'll be a convertible and I can switch back and forth as I please with relative ease.
I was thinking about gettin one of these, but I'm not sure how I'd mount it.........Then I could be as bad as I wanna be!
Looks pretty real eh? Except along the front edge where the doublestick tape didn't adhere so good. Snicker snicker

Man, I'm in a quandary now. I just about had myself talked into sending it back and taking the hit for shipping. I mentioned it to mini me (aka Tyler, my son). He's totally bumming. He really liked the idea of bigger is better. He brought all his little neighborhood buddies over to see it. It was unanimous, all the lil dudes thought I should keep it.
Now I really don't know what to do.
On a good note..............check out the bling. Thanks to Rex for being quick n accurate and gettin my bezels, shift handle etc. out to me. Summit did their thing too and got the Autometers out to me the same day the rest of the stuff got here from Rex. What timing. Been running around with mis-matched gauges for two years now. Finally they aint all ugly n stuff.
