This is a little gadget I put together for our race car. It's a pump that draws drinking water from an insulated bag in the nose of the car and delivers it to the driver via a tube. He has a bite valve in the front of his helmet.
The old pump being used in the car was tied into the car's electrical system. However, was not wired correctly and due to voltage drop it would gas out during the races. I tried to get the guys to fix it but it never got to the top of the list. Since we only have a couple of full time mechanics they are always busy. With the Indy 500 coming up, having water for our driver is pretty important.
So here's the answer. I used three 6 volt batteries to makes sure the pump would get after it. Since it is activated by a dash mounted pushbutton, the voltage shouldn't be a problem for intermittent duty. The stuff on the cover is a connecter for the switch harness, a LED that is lit when charging, a jack for the 21 volt laptop power supply, and a 15 amp popout circuit breaker.
Note the attention to detail, which is a result of many hours labor and several expensive trips to the store. This is a necessary part of building anything associated with an IndyCar. :D Gotta spend that money. Not shown in the photos is the impressive amount of recycleable aluminum that was generated by the project. :D :D

Really cool. I think I'd leave it at home though, rather than taking it through an airport security checkpoint (you know, just in case one broke and Dr. Gizmo needed to bring another to a race site). I think it'd earn you a trip to the graybar hotel for the evening.....

The bag holds about a quart and a half. It's just a camelback bag, like a backpacker uses.
Already thinking about that automatic beer delivery model... :D :D
The Thousands Standing Around folks would shit if they saw this thing on x-ray. :D
